AKA...shit on a shingle. I learned that from one of my brothers home on leave from the Navy or Marines.

I'm sure if I had others cooking for me my whole life, I wouldn't be nearly as good at it

But we love cooking together. Music playing, kind of dancing around the kitchen.

It was a joyous time.

Theyre skipping a vital part of digestion: mastication! They barely chew the food before "washing it down" with colored sugar water. Egads.

A little lesson for them:

The teeth aid in mechanical digestion by masticating (chewing) food. Mastication permits easier deglutition (swallowing) and faster chemical breakdown in the digestive tract. During mastication, salivary glands secrete saliva to soften the food into a bolus (semi-solid lump).

We had such poor models back then. Corporations drilling us with what American life should be like. It was all part of the brainwashing of America that led us to what we are experiencing today. The cult of trumpism.

For the corporations, as long as they make big bucks, they'll sell the people anything, no matter how low quality or damaging.

This is a hoot, CayugaFalls. Thanks. We're paternalistically informed that potato chips are a useful "accessory food." Thank all the tech gods for the internet revolution, for better and worse.

Speaking of, I just tried a sandwich from Joanne Chang the other day that I liked and will make again and again even though I messed it up. It's of the sub or muffaletta type that actually needs to be squished in the bottom of a warm backpack until time to stop for lunch.

I really like the lime-garlic-oregano dressing, but I didn't follow the directions to pour it right on the ciabatta because, tough as that is, I hate soggy bread, so I just brushed it on generously. Should have trusted it because the sandwiches were dry and needed more flavor. Next time I'll pour it right on. Paraphrased:

1/2 cup finely chopped fresh oregano
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
6 Tbs. fresh lime juice
2 large cloves garlic, minced
Kosher salt and freshly ground white or black pepper

Ciabatta loaf or rolls
Lettuce
18 oz favorite Italian deli meats
8 oz. provolone or favorite cheese
1 cup drained, sliced mild or hot pickled peppers (or more!)

Mix the dressing and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. The flavor improves with time and it'll keep up to a week. Cut the loaf in half, pour the dressing over both halves. Bread, lettuce, then meats and cheese, peppers, bread. Smush together, weight on top helps, and wrap tight. Should be cut into portions now if it won't be eaten until waiting to be admitted to Trump's inauguration. Let sit for a few hours at room or bus temperature to let the flavors meld.
