I am going to be cooking a Mother's Day brunch for my wife and mother. This is a very special mother's day for my wife and I want to make it memorable. My wife has been a wonderful stepmother for almost 5 years now but their is a little more to this Mother's Day than past ones. My wife and I tried to have a baby soon after getting married but it turned into a very long and trying road. My wife almost lost her life a year and a half ago because of it and has had a very long recovery. We had always discussed adopting and began the process last year and we finally got a beautiful baby girl placed with us a little over a month ago. This is the very condensed version of what happened but I just wanted to explain part of why this is such a special Mother's Day. I've got some surprises planned out for the afternoon but wanted to come up with some new stuff for brunch. My wife always likes to try new food, which is great because I love to cook new stuff . We are vegetarian, as is my mother. We eat dairy and eggs. The only thing I have planned so far is Liege Waffles http://allrecipes.com/recipe/liege-belgian-waffles-with-pearl-sugar/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=liege%20waffle&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page I've never made them before so any tips would be appreciated. Anyone have any interesting brunch ideas?

Enjoy your day. You all deserve it.

(135,060 posts)How many are you serving? Do you want to do just a sweet brunch or do you want to include some savory as well?

The Herbevoracious blog has some good recipes: http://herbivoracious.com/recipes/breakfast
Roasted aparagus is pretty on a brunch plate.
Using sweet potatoes instead of Idahos in hash browns makes a nice, colorful twist.
Congrats on your new family member!

Joking aside, it wouldn't be brunch without it--way too much trouble to do for everyday fare. Also a seasonal fruit tray would be a nice accent.
