I'm longing to make a charcuterie board,

but I certainly can't host a party now. I would still like to do something festive for me and mister procon for New Year's Eve so I was kinda listing out some of the things I'd like to include and the cost was adding up fast.

I'm thinking of 2-3 different meats and cheeses, some fish, pickled veggies, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, assorted breads and crackers, medjool dates, dried apricots, hard boiled eggs, some dipping sauces and spreads... Enough for a big meal with a sparkling wine.

Can I reduce the quantity for just two people? Is that even practical to make a very small charcuterie board, plus there's the problem of how to use up all the leftover foods.

Anyone have some other ideas maybe?

If you have leftovers, just do it day after day until you use up all the stuff.

I’m all for a big charcuterie board, but you can trim it back on variety and still have a great one.

checked 'misc' dept. @ grocery store, ended up including some pates &.

As you've mentioned it, MAY pick up daily-made guacamole from grocery.

Your board sounds great. I found a brie recipe that is making me think of braving the world to get some from the local grocery for my board.

I'm going for sparkling juice because it's only a demarcation and not a celebration. I'll buy 2 bottles of sparkling wine and celebrate with Mr. WT and our pets on January 20th.

We often gather up whatever is in hand: some wonderful sauces, some nuts and olives or fruit or whatever, then go through the fridge/freezer/pantry to explore the leftovers or forgotten wonderful-ness.

Presentation is key, cut things in a variety of ways, including even just cheddar cheese .

Have fun and enjoy as often as possible!

Mr. MontanaM and I make charcuterie boards for the two of us fairly often. With a teenager at home who often tells me at the last minute that he won't be home for dinner...I will switch to one of these for dinner rather than make a big meal for just the two of us. I will usually choose two meats, 3 cheeses (a hard cheese, a blue and a creamy cheese), 2 dried fruits, some nuts, a mustard or two and some fig spread, thinly sliced baguette or rye bread, a sturdy cracker and a couple of pickled things like olives or cornichons. I might add smoked salmon or oysters if I have them but with two meats, it isn't usually necessary. I've never done boiled eggs but that's a good idea!! Add wine and its such a fun meal.

Leftovers make a lovely 2nd charcuterie board for a Saturday afternoon later in the month or a nice lunch during the week. But, you can buy smaller amounts at the grocery store deli or specialty store. Cured meats keep a long time. I tend to buy smaller amounts of cheese because they don't keep as long. Enjoy. This is our New Years Day later afternoon meal plan.

Skip the pickled veg, fish, and egg. You’ll have less to eat.

I usually do 3 cheeses, 3 meats, olives, almonds, fig jam, dried cherries, mustard, 2 crackers, and 2 bread crisps.

as is typical for charcuterie.

Cheese can be bought small and/or frozen.

My mom and I love doing charcuterie boards when I visit and we watch a movie. I'm sure ours aren't as fancy as some, but it works for us. If you have an Aldi near you, they have a good selection of smaller packages of fun things to include. We also use the smaller individual packages of hummus and guacamole for our boards as veggie dips. If you google "Aldi Charcuterie Board" you'll get some ideas. Aldi also has curbside pickup now.

9. Don't forget slices of apple can be used for spreads and cheese. Some people prefer that to crackers

down if I use the deli counter for small portions of meats and pate, cheeses, crab, the olives and a selection of breads. Hopefully I can still add the other things I wanted so we have a grand NY Eve party for two.

If it works out I plan to have another celebratory feast to mark Trump's last day, and welcome Biden.
