Latest project complete..

The wife and I have been hitting some nice estate sales recently, and this is my latest find.

It started out as a broken down drop-leaf table, with one leaf missing, the other broken, and the supports for the leaves falling off.

I took the leaves & hinges off, cut down the broken leaf, recreated the breadboard edge, and made it a shelf covering the rails. On the top, I profiled the ends to match the sides, and refinished everything. The legs appear to be late 19th century hand carved newel posts flipped upside down, based on the stain patterns on the inside and the dents and dings at the top. Who knows how many lives this collection of craftsmanship has seen. Here's to one more.

is finding these old pieces and giving them new life. I just couldn't imagine all that nice quarter-sawn oak being tipped into a dumpster.

Nothing special about the wood, it'll stay painted (mainly because it's probably lead paint and I've lost enough brain cells as is).

Plans are to mount the glass knobs and escutcheon plates to the front, as well as some swing-arm lamps that I've re-painted and the wife has made shades for.

Pictures to follow- eventually.
