We are doing some remodeling in the big house and one of the projects is the upstairs laundry room/guest bathroom. I've already removed the 24 inch bathroom vanity and we are going to replace that with a unfinished 30 inch kitchen sink base cabinet and an unfinished 18 inch wide by 84 inch tall pantry cabinet. Stacking the washer and dryer will give the room for this. The counter will be a 4 foot laminate kitchen couter that I'll cut down to 30 inches. The sink and faucet will be from the master bathroom which we are also remodeling.
Ive done this here in the bathroom of the little house were we are staying as work is being done at the big house and we like because of the extra cabinet and counter space.
If you do this, just remember to cut the hole for the sink closer to the edge as much as you can because if you center it, you are going to end up having to lean way over to get over the sink when using it such as when you are brushing your teeth and need to spit out the toothpaste .
The reason we are going with unfinished cabinets is because of cost and the wife wants the ability to choose a color later that will go with the counter she picks out.

(1 post)Kitchen counter heights are 36" +/- while standard bathroom vanity heights are around 32"....This is so kids can reach and it also makes it easier to bend over the sink....when washing face....brushing teeth etc...Slightly higher seems to be fine these days as our population is getting taller....but if children need to use the kitchen height vanity they may have to stand on a stool which has its own dangers....recycling cabinets is always a great idea if you are aware of dimensional differences ...

(40,285 posts)I love the extra height and larger counter area. I can't bend well on some days and the taller vanity is easier for me to use.
