This is my first year to grow onions. I have some Copras out that should mature in about a month. Can I start another planting of them then? Is it too hot in the summer or should I wait until spring?

(912 posts)I put onions in whenever in the summer. They are not like spinach or peas that need the cooler weather, they should do fine.

I'm pulling the last of my short day out now, I planted long day red onions a month ago.
what temp zone do you live in?

Good luck and post picts when you harvest.

(47,675 posts)The latter two put out extensive root systems even if the produce isn't edible because of weather. That builds the soil. Onions are just good. They grow easily from seed and sets, but seed is cheaper. You can also sow them in the late summer and over-winter them for spring harvest.
