Plant it everywhere. The root system is HUGE! When you pull the plant, the roots remain.

(18,186 posts)1. Yay for lettuce!
What kind did you plant?
I have some mixed greens I need to plant soon. But I found a jumbo container of organic spring greens ( 1 pound which is like a gallon) for $1.99 on sale at Kroger today so that made me very happy. I live on them lately.
Good luck and I know those worm castings will make pretty lettuce. Yum

Most of them are small fibrous feeder roots and they spread out way beyond the drip line. When you pull the plant, the roots remain and add organic material. The same is true with radishes. It doesn't matter if you use the "food" or not, you're helping all of the other plants. Everywhere and year-round is the rule.

The snow and snap peas, more lettuce and radishes went in last week. I hope it starts raining soon.
