I think I mentioned this last year.........my Thanksgiving cactus is blooming again.....

It's February, and I've got 4 - 5 blossoms on it. So nice to see flowers in the dead of winter, or the polar vortex as we just experienced. It's beautiful. and she's in a southern espoused window. She's been there for the last 3 years and is doing just fantastic. Keeps me sane.

1. I've got a couple blooms on my 15 year old Thanksgiving cactus

2. So happy it does bloom again, in the Spring when I need some joy.

and mine is only about 6 years old. I bought two plants, gave one to my Sister In Law, and I kept one. Hers died about 2 years ago, and mine is thriving. I hate to even say, I normally have a dead thumb, but this cactus is just thriving. I'M SO HAPPY.

I just call them holiday cacti. One bloomed at Thanksgiving, another the week after Christmas and looks like the two new ones are aiming for Easter.

5. You can keep your cactus blooming

most the year with a little liquid flowering fertilizer couple times a year. Mine bloom almost all year round. I do love seeing flowers in the winter too. It makes it more bearable.

9. Can you imagine my surprise when

I found out they grow to be TREES! They are a zone 12 plant that grows many feet high. My entire life, I thought they were just these little plants at Christmas! Funny.

10. have you tried to propagate it?

I am propagating a few succulent leaves at the moment and one of them is getting a baby plant already.

It's such a nice surprise when things flower or new pups pop up.

11. No, don't really have the space, but love my plant.......

I did have to laugh tho.....gave my Sister In Law, for thanksgiving the same thanksgiving plant I have. Her’s Died, and mine is thriving. And I love my S-I-L but this really makes feel, feel great. I send her photos every thanksgiving of MY thanksgiving cactus even tho we’re at her home for thanksgiving dinner. She is so great, she does the cooking, and I send her photos of the thanksgiving cactus she used to have. Love her.
