Joe Lamp'l (Growing a Greener World, Joe Gardener) is going to work with me on a new on-line course as part of his gardening school - Growing Epic Tomatoes. The pressure is on - he will be making 3-4 trips to film pretty much everything I do, from planning to seed starting, transplanting, straw bales, containers, up through harvest, tasting, seed saving, etc....

So - I am finally going to have to practice what I preach (and hope that it all goes well!)

4. gardening kept me sane during COVID

there's always something new to learn. that there are no guarantees can either make one a gardener for life, or drive one over the bend! As a 40 year gardener, I think it is now pretty much part of me!

8. I just started 4 years ago with 5 blueberry bushes.

Since then I’ve added, 6 blackberry bushes, a flame grapefruit tree, a satsuma orange tree, a fig tree, two loquat trees, two pear trees and an herb garden. I’ve got enough room left to do some veggies and assorted flowers for the bees and butterflies. It’s been exciting to watch it all grow. My next door neighbor knows a lot and has been a big help. Definitely has helped me stay sane not to mention the exercise factor.

as you’ve been videoed before for PBS as nctomatoman, am I right?
I know I saw that episode but can’t recall which show now ...
So you should do fine, but here’s a challenge for you ... plug DU 😁
I don’t know, something simple like posing a question such as
‘ I think this growing medium is ideal for tomatoes’
and then look straight into the camera and ask ‘ DU?’

Be sure to announce the time it airs, we’ll be watching 😳

11. the other part....since this is going to be an on line course with

10 modules, it will be my first real chance at getting some income for what I do (book royalties are kind of a joke)....but that also conflicts me. I've given so much info away over the years that it makes me feel a bit odd to be part of a course - and since it will be Joe's game, I am kind of along for the ride (he films, markets, it is on his teaching site - I demonstrate). I am just not a very good capitalist, I am afraid!

it is also going to "put me out there" a bit more than I like - I love gardening, sharing and teaching, but am not at all fond of PR.

I wish you every success with this, and will be anticipating the final product! My wife grew up on a farm in WNY, and is an AVID gardener, and get pretty good results. Would LOVE to find ways to get better results!

18. Oh EXCELLENT!

I am deeply into gardening, and am luxuriating in it now that the big freeze is over and most of the tree wreckage is being cleared away. It's incredibly therapeutic, and the results are just a whole buncha SPLENDID! I'm OD'ing on daffodils this season, but I want a thicket of them!

Basically the whole thing is little else but an ongoing "what happens if I do THIS?" project. Just seeing what the garden's best suited for, considering amounts of sun exposure. And since the tree loss means more sun exposure, I'm going to be watching closely to see what grows, suffers, thrives... Gonna be MOST educational! And March is NOT over yet.

Reading Epic Tomatoes is what moved me away from hybrids into OP varieties. I'm part of a group that is growing out Stump of the World as a tribute to Remy this year. I look forward to seeing your series!
