Related: About this forumRejoice with me and be glad. My missing cat, Dixie just came home
She had been missing for at least 72 hrs outside.
I normally lock her up in a room before I open the.outside door, so this is on stooped hooman failure.
She is still an asshole for freaking me out.

(702 posts)When my cousin lived upstate and the cats were indoor/outdoor cats, Gracie cried to go out in the snow.
Regret that it was in the days before cell-phone cameras because she would disappear into the snow and bounce out. She'd bounce all the way across the yard and it always took shaking the treat bag for a long time to convince her to come back in.

(3,142 posts)How relieved you must feel.
The first summer I had my Holly (who was terrified of me), she slipped out the door when I foolishly opened it at 11 pm. The next day, I was so distraught I cried all day at work. My mother came over and went up and down the street all day showing her picture to everybody. Long story short: she was found in the neighbors' window well three doors down; apparently she spent the night there. That was 13 years ago and she STILL won't go near the front door when I open it. I guess she figured living with me was not so bad after all. It beats being at the bottom of a window well.

to give some perspective, I've lived in NC for nearly 18 years. Chippy is the ONLY chipmunk I've ever seen here. He's been burrowing under my shed for 4 years now.

(29,803 posts)Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own
He had a yellow cat that wouldn't leave its home
He tried and he tried to give the cat away
He gave it to a man goin' far, far away
But the cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, they thought he was a goner
But the cat came back, it just couldn't stay away
Away, away
Can you make a cat sound?
Meow, meow, meow
So he gave it to a woman going up in a balloon
He told him for to take it to the man up in the moon
The balloon came down about 90 miles away
And where the woman is now, well, I cannot say
But the cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back, it just couldn't stay away
Away, away
Is that cat sound?
Meow, meow, meow, meow
So he gave it to a man going way out West
He told him for to take it to the one he loved the best
First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail
And nobody was left to tell the awful tale
But the cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back, it just couldn't stay away
Away, away
The cat came back the very next day
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back, it just couldn't stay away
Away, away
Meow, meow, meow
welcome back gato.

(7,945 posts)writes cat songs and sets them to Irish drinking tunes. I LOVE 'em. A lot of em are like the one you posted. They're all very Celtic style harmonies and rhythms. Songs like "When Kitty Eyes are Smiling" and "Lord of the Pounce." You've probably already heard them... they've been around a long time... but I love 'em, and find it hard to stay in a bad mood when I put on the CD!

aggiesal
(10,915 posts)because I left the garagedoor open and she knows how to open the door from the house into the garage.
So I hear the door open, thinking she's exploring in the garage. When walking past the slightly opened door, I noticed I left the light on in the garage.
When I opened the door further, it was sunlight, not the garage light. She had escaped.
It was cold and it rained in those 10 days, plus the hawks & coyotes that prey on cats in my neighborhood, so I was very worried.
Her name is Romi, and she really doesn't like it when I'm standing up and I try to pick her up. I have to get down to her level or she has to come up to my level to be more amiable to pick her up. I saw her in the backyard a couple of times, but because I was standing, she bolted. What a climber, she is.
On the 10th day, I was kneeling, setting up trap used to catch skunks, raccoons, possums, ..., when she walked right up to me and brushed her body on my leg, startling me.
I immediately, picked her up and brought her into the house. Of course she recognized the house, and walked right up to her bowl of food and started eating.
She was home.
So I know how you feel.
Welcome her home with a big hug and her favorite meal.
