I take her into the upstairs bathroom to give her her medicine. I wait to make sure she swallows her 3/4 pill before I open the door to let her out. Then I give her and Holly (who's waiting outside the door because she knows what's coming next) treats after we go back downstairs. A few days ago, after I opened the door to let her out, she refused to leave the bathroom! You would think that because it's such a torture chamber to her, she would dash out as quickly as she could. But no, she just sat there. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a cat?
The other night, she fought for her life. She was up on her hind legs; clenching her jaw; scratching; growling; and spitting out the pill every time. We went four rounds that night. For such a little cat, she sure is strong and strong-willed.
Man, I love that cat.

(21,982 posts)You have my sympathy about giving your cat a pill. Every time they spit it out, it is smaller. I always hope the vets knew that and increased the dosage, but those are the same people who tell us to brush their teeth.

(1,534 posts)They are a treat and cover the taste of the pill. I used the pill wraps every day for 16 years and we rarely had a spit out pill, (had a cat with epilepsy that needed two pills a day, and then he and his brother developed other ailments as they aged that also required twice daily pills.) My favorite pill wrap was Vetoquinol Pill Wrap. Got it from my vet, but I think you can also buy it on Amazon. It was a pill wrap you could mold around any size pill. Sure made my life easier! Less stressful for my kitties, too.
