Related: About this forumThe Cat Who Came in with the Cop (Cat Distribution System)
This follows Pt. 1 by FigarosMom.
True story. Happened to my brother in late March.
Setting: small town. This would only happen in a small town.
Kitchen table. My brother is sorting receipts for his taxes.
Local cop opens the breezeway door on an unseasonably warm day and walks into the kitchen He tells my brother he left the lights on in his vehicle and he turned them off for him. Like I said, small town.
The cop walked in with a calico cat
My brother thanked the officer and was privately amused that the township was now using cats instead of dogs for their detective work.
However, when the cop was ready to leave, he did not take the cat with him. My brother called to the cop as he was getting in his police car and reminded him he left his "partner" behind.
The cop looked at him blankly and said he thought the cat was my brother's. The cat just walked in with him.
My brother returned to the cat and the rest is history.
I wanted to tell this story earlier, but my brother felt obligated to run ads in the local paper seeking the cat's human. The cat is obviously domesticated and was in fine health. My brother took her to the vet for a physical. I didn't know how the story was going to end, but it appears the cat will be staying with him since no one has claimed her.
Here's "Gabby":

(2,479 posts)Shes a beauty!
After almost four years feeding a feral cat (our old neighbourhood had DOZENS) and forcing her to move with us last year, she turned up missing a couple weeks back and when she reappeared, was super skinny and almost unable to stand up. Mortified at what happened to her but she was suddenly eager to come in and has been recuperating in my sons room until we can get her vaccinated and ready to assimilate. Still a little nervous because weve witnessed her chase, kill, and half eat a squirrel more than once and I have four parrots, but fingers crossed she domesticates quickly.
Biggest problem will probably be that our lease only allows two cats and we have three now
Just cant risk her coming to a bad end after weve invested so much love in her. The CDS is pretty firm about your responsibilities when they drop a furbaby in your lap this way.

(2,479 posts)... in Tampa (I'm an hour away in Sarasota). So far, we pretty much pay the rent and we don't hear a peep out of them.
Big relief getting her indoors. I'm not a believer in letting cats outside and think she's already pushed the envelope by surviving this long. 😬

(23,127 posts)Years ago, when Mr, B and I were young and stupid, we had cats that we let go outside in the summer. The cats loved going outside, but we lost 3 of them that way. You'd think we'd have gotten the hint after the first one, but we were too dense. *sigh*

(43,866 posts)From what he has said, she sure enjoys those meal toppers that he gives her straight from the envelope.
Thanks for the observation.
