Related: About this forumI'll be 3 dogs, 7 chicken and ? fish-sitting
at my daughter's house for a week, beginning this evening, as she takes a vacation to Ireland, and may want y'alls thoughts. I cared for the dogs and fish last year, chicks are new, but her cat is at the vets, and as I had an urgent-type call earlier, sounds like cat may present problems.
I have no problem making 'ultimate' decisions, if/when necessary, but may check in here later in the week.
Thanks, in advance.

(18,219 posts)Hope that all goes well, and I do hope you don't have to make any decisions on the cat.

(141,926 posts)but dogs spend all day outside, as do chicks. I'll feed and water them, pretty easy. And dogs know me. (I hope they remember me!)
I hope, if there's an ultimate decision to be made about the cat, I and the vet can keep it from daughter (and her guy) until late in the trip. Really don't want to call/txt Ireland: "Cat must be/has been put down." in first days. From daughters message couple hours ago, sounded like trip was in jeopardy.

(18,219 posts)A trip to Ireland is such a rare treat, and there really isn't anything that she can do for the cat that is not already being handled.
I love my cat, and I would be devastated to lose him, but I also know that we do what we can and there are times when things are out of our hands. Reassure her that you will do the best you can.

(141,926 posts)I think/hope the trip decision's been made, at least an hour ago anyway, but I'm without info on cat's condition, and vet's point of view (and I don't do cats, so doubly ignorant.)
Fortunately daughter is with a great guy, who helps with emotional and practical issues. I'm due at their house at 5, and they have to leave for airport 5:30/6, so I hope (assume?) things are/will have been settled. Will check in here later this evening.

(18,219 posts)I'm on and off here all the time. (Like now....clean a little, check in here, clean a little..........a very little, etc) Not that I have expertise on cats, but I have been through a lot with them over the years, and counting.

(141,926 posts)FORTUNATELY, cat's under vet care!

(141,926 posts)learned how to care for chicks, and learned that there was no alarm from vet about cat today. Daughter+ on their way to airport now.
Vet will contact them first, if any emergencies, and then me. Last they heard, vet hadn't figured out is cat's problem, a youngster, only about 3 years old.
SO, they're OFF!!! (Thank goodness!)
Thanks for holding my hand.

(18,219 posts)Will the chickens be easy??? I hope so. And I do hope that the vet can determine the problem with the cat and things go well. Such a young one to be so seriously ill!
Well, good luck with the menagerie.

(141,926 posts)Look like chicks will be easy, only need attention once a day, for food and water, and if they leave coop when I open it to feed and water them, they'll (likely) jump back up when I've done the job, as they did when I received my lesson.
Fingers crossed, for around 6:00 pm next 6 days!

(1,398 posts)Ireland is my home now, and I love it. Hope they get some decent weather.
Good luck to you as you tend the menagerie.

(141,926 posts)may do some day trips. There for 1 week, and weather looks to be pretty good, no rain 'predicted,' as I see it, and temps moderate, high today 66, low 55 Wednesday.
Where are you, Granny M?

(1,398 posts)There's loads to do in Dublin and nearby. With only a week, they are wise to not try to pack too much in. If you're talking to them, tell them the Literary Pub Crawl and the Historical Walking Tour are both worth the time. Let me know how they are getting on.

(141,926 posts)They've been before, its their 'go-to' place, so they know somethings. Daughter's guy and his father located ancestor's house some years ago, I think in the North, but they've been unable to return recently.
