Well, that's it. My Kira is gone.

She hasn't been able to get outside by herself for the last few days, could barely walk and completely stopped eating so we finally decided it was time.
We had Dr. Robin Holmes, "Gifts of Peace" from Pasadena come out to our house and very gently put her to sleep while she laid in my lap with all the family petting her and using lots of tissues.
We got her 13 years ago from a shelter when she was about 1 so she was 14 years old.
At least we know we gave her a good, long life and she returned the favor back to all of us.

Goodbye, Kira.

When you see Champ let him know we think about him every day.

When I took Champ to the Vets after he hadn't eaten in 3 days (10 years and then got cancer) he couldn't walk so I carried him to the car and left him in the car while I went into find out which entrance they wanted me to come in (didn't want to upset the kids who were there with their puppies), Whenever I took Champ in the car he would move to the driver's seat when I went into the store for a minute and when I came back it looked like he was ready to drive the car. He started doing this when I took him with my youngest daughter to teach her how to drive. He kept waiting for his driving lesson.

This time he was so we he couldn't stand, eat, or play but when I came out he had moved to the front seat and was sitting proud and tall to show me that he was still waiting for his driver's lesson, Dad.

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you.....
I loved you so --
'twas Heaven here with you.

Today the Fedex man came to the door and asked where the cute little puppy was.

She loved going up to him, and other strangers, wagging her tail.
She then would stand staring up and waited to be petted.
If the stranger petted her she would walk away wagging her tail with a big smile on her face.

I so miss her.

I was wondering how she was doing since you last mentioned that she was coming to the end of her long and happy life with you. Hard to forget such an adorable "half and half" smiling happy face. I'm glad though that you were all there with her to help her on her way. Having the vet come to the house must have been much more comfortable for her, too. I wish more vets would do this.

We had her for almost a month since delaying the euthanasia.
She enjoyed many walks since then and her favorite thing became lying next to me on the sofa while I watched TV.
I watched a lot more TV than I normally do just so she could have the time with me.

My daughter summed up the vet experience in a tweet:
"We had her euthanized at home via Gifts of Peace in Pasadena. The doctor was so gracious and made the worst thing in the world a bit easier."

Boy it leaves a hole inside you though.
We've just got to relax and let time do it's healing.
