Related: About this forumHas anyone's dog ever eaten a piece of garlic bread?
Noelle, 80 lb german shepherd, snagged about a 2" piece
of a single side of Pepperidge Farm garlic bread. I'm
thinking I'm going to have a rough night tonight since
she'll probably have a mega-bout of diarrhea. She's normally
on a limited ingredient diet and takes pancrezyme (3 pills)
with every meal. She had just had dinner with her meds,
which is probably a good thing.
Wasn't sure if there was anything else I needed to be
aware of.

(1,136 posts)There are some people that actually feed their dogs garlic. Supposed to be a natural flea remedy. I know some site recommend against it, but I have never heard of a pup getting sick from it.
I have a boxer with a very sensitive tummy and the garlic bread never had an impact on her. Hopeful yours will be fine as well. Just keep an eye on her overnight. Fingers crossed for an easy night!

(11,854 posts)Thinking about taking her with me when I get the call to go pick up my daughter from her friends 21st Bday party. It'll give Noelle another chance to go out (just in case), and make me feel a bit safer if I have to wait for my daughter to make her goodbyes to her friends.

(11,065 posts)There isn't much garlic in garlic bread. It just seems like a lot because garlic has such a strong taste. She's a big dog and just had dinner besides so she may be ok. But since I'm writing this nearly 24 hours after your post you probably already know that by now. Hopefully there wasn't any surprise bouts of the runs, and she's fine.
Just keep an eye out for anything unusual in the next few days. Since she's on a limited ingredient diet I'm guessing she has some issues with allergies or something that might not show up until later. You also might want to put a call in to the vet just to put your mind at ease. I can't count how many times I've done that. They can tell you whether or not there's anything to worry about, if there is what symptoms to look out for and for how long, and in the future if something like it happens again you'll know what to do. More often than not my calls to the vet start with "This is probably really stupid, but...". So far I've never been sorry for any call though. They always tell me it's better to be safe than sorry, and the peace of mind is always worth the call.

(11,854 posts)Yeah, the limited ingredient diet is because she has issues with grains, put that together with her digestive issues of fats and her pancreatic insufficiency and she pretty much sticks to the same thing day in/day out, with very little variation. Of course, she's probably a lot better off that way. She really isn't a counter surfer. I guess the smell of the buttery garlic bread was too much for her
We feed her Science Diet for Adult Large Breed dogs. Her treats are fresh dehydrated sweet potatoes (which she goes nuts over) and green beans, Natural Balance L.I.T. Sweet Potato biscuits and their L.I.T. Potato and Duck biscuits. If we board her, we almost always have to treat her with Tylan when she comes home to get her gut flora back in order. She absolutely cannot tolerate Milk Bones or any of the treats that you buy from the grocery store. Oh, and we give her Rescue Remedy when bad storms come through.
The pancrezyme pills aren't cheap, but they fixed her problem. She'll be on them the rest of her life. She's 7yo now, and we hope we have at least another 7 with her. She had dropped to 55 lbs and had lots of testing done before they were able to identify what her issues were because the test results came back showing borderline or normal. Doc tried the meds and Science Diet as a last ditch effort.
