Our marvelous, handsome and giant hearted guy crossed over yesterday.
Galen was 12.5 years old this month, we knew he was dying, and after a bad 3 days this week, we managed to get thru the bitter cold, snow and ice to the vet's. He slipped away, looking me in the eye as I held him.
I know all of you guys understand why it is so damn hard to do the right thing. My heart is shattered.

My heart aches for you. Our furbabies have a way of just curling up inside our Hearts. He was beautiful.
So glad you got to hold him and send him over the Rainbow Bridge with love.

It's hard because we love them so much. Looks like a sweet, sweet boy.
I'm hoping there's a Rainbow Bridge. Really. There are stranger things in the universe than that. He passed away in a way that I hope I will one day. He was a lucky doggie.
Our lives are no more or less valuable and important...or should be....than animals.
We should have options for us, too.
And yes, we will meet them again. I could tell you stories.....

I know the pain you feel. Two days ago Chelsea Handler lost her best friend too. I have been hearing about so many losses in the past few months and it seems odd to me. I remember when Fran Dresher's dogs and Mickey Rourke's dogs passed away and how I felt knowing someone understands how I feel too. It is such severe pain to experience and I have 100% empathy with you. My best friend is almost 15 and I dread it but I appreciate that I will live long enough to take care of her and provide the best life until it happens. That is a good thing. She wouldn't be able to live without me.
The only time our furry family members are capable of breaking our hearts is when it's time for them to leave use. Again, you have my deepest condolences.

We had to make this decision for our precious Schatzie in August of 2016 the day before her 11th birthday. She had cancer. The pain of her passing hasn't entirely gone away, but it has gotten better. Just try to remember the good times you shared with him. Time does heal.

Galen....How wonderful that you were in each others' lives for 12 years....I know when you think of him your heart will hurt but I also know you will smile when you think of all the joy he brought to you and you brought to him.....
What a beautiful photo of him! Goldens are the sweetest dogs. And it is so hard to say goodbye to our fur babies. I truly hope there is a Rainbow Bridge because I'd much rather be reunited with my fur babies than with most people I've known.

I always had to take them down the road to the shelter, because Galen was not tolerant of other dogs.Cats, yes. Dogs no.
So I am curious to see if the parade continues now.
