Related: About this forumMy sweet Hank is in the vet hospital this weekend. They believe
he had an attack of vestibular symptom. I thought he was having a stroke yesterday afternoon. This is fairly common in old dogs. Hank is 15. I lost his 'brother', Sugar, on Nov. 25, 2017.

(54,815 posts)You are already suffering a great loss. Chelsea Handler is going through the same thing. However, her baby was a 18 and a medium sized dog so don't lose hope! Spike (my almost 15 yr old "best friend" and baby) and I send belly rubs and warm, soft kisses.
*Oh, I forgot. Take him off the kitchen counter. When my mom was taking care of Spike after she had surgery a long time ago and I was at work she had Spike on the kitchen table and thought Spike was knocked out but she wasn't completely and got up and fell to the floor. She was OK since when they are relaxed they usually don't get hurt as much...like drunk drivers.

(8,139 posts)that would be you, of course. Good on ya for giving him the best life. I'm trying my best to do the same with little Joey the Jack Russell terrier. He's fourteen now, and so far doing good. Got him at the shelter when he was ten; best thing I ever did, except marry my wife.

(57,488 posts)scan for Monday. They will put in a feeding tube while he's out as well. He hasn't eaten since Thursday evening. I'm beginning to lose hope Hank will make it.

(11,193 posts)stay at the vets for a few days but was able to return home. I have hardwood floors and had to put down some rugs to make it easier for her to walk inside the house. There is no quick healing process but my baby made decent progress. She did have a little tilt to her head for the rest of her life but she regained a quality life.

(57,488 posts)He's still at hospital and is showing slight improvement. I'm to take him baby food in the morning. Poor guy hasn't eaten since Thursday night. He still can't walk on his own.
I have a tad more hope that my 15 year old can pull through this.

(57,488 posts)able to stand, drink water, and wobbly walk a 100 feet or so. Big problem is we can't get him to eat. I'm popping bites down his throat every couple of hours, but he's yet to take the first bite on his own.
I've tried everything: baby food meats, his favorite canned, cat food, fancy dog foods, ground beef, roasted chicken, hard boiled eggs, toast, tuna, gravey, beef broth, and Science Diet canned I/D. Nothing.
If he won't eat, I will have to make a bad choice. Vet's have given him Mirtazapine and steroid shot trying to stimulate his appetite.
