I had to hide mine in a drawer, although I left a couple already-chewed ones out for them. My cats love those things.

Elastic hair ties, too, which I find all over the place. My 10-year-old tuxedo will hold one down with her paw, pull on it with her teeth, and then let go. It only shoots about a foot, but it's enough to keep her happy and busy for a while.
