Five live garter snakes in the kitchen was pretty special.

(3,056 posts)It was adorable until one day she brought one in that had a slug on it. This was outside of Seattle. Slugs were huge...you could throw a saddle on those damn things.
And of course I stepped on it.

(12,051 posts)We got one of those, too. She dropped it in the garage where it ran behind the stack of wood and then the cabinets. Eventually got it out, but took awhile. Never knew that moles made such a screechy noise.

Well, start meowing and walking on my head when I'm dead asleep and you migh-- on second thought, scratch that.
My kitties have never brought me anything; I feel left out!

(22,479 posts)these mice are not always all dead, or they are missing a limb or an eye or a head.
It's not as romantic as you think.
our cats typically bring home decapitated mice, moles, rabbits and the occasional bird. I feel bad when one of the mice or chipmunks or whatever is still alive and briefly escapes and tries to limp away, hopping on 3 good legs...

(60,010 posts)We have all kinds, mostly chameleons, some bigger grey ones they call fence or rail lizards here.
And some startling large red skinks.
Lizards shed their tails if attacked, and often one of the cats brings me a wiggling tail in his mouth, from any lizard that makes it into the house, the cats are indoors only, mostly because I like my outdoor lizards too much to have the cats decimate them.
another reason they are indoor is that my outdoor cat of long ago brought us a baby rattlesnake one time.

(14,624 posts)I have 6 semi-ferals who live in my yard. They leave me a half eaten lizard or a decapitated mouse once in a while.
I had an indoor female who once brought a LIVE ROACH into my bed.
A blossom would be nice once in a while.

(2,596 posts)My mother told me that this is what cats do in the wild for their young. I have Shih Tzu who found a baby squirrel that blew out of a tree during a dreadful rainstorm we had with a lot of wind. We didn't even notice he had anything in his mouth. He'd been out for his late night walk with my husband and he wasn't being obvious about anything. A short time later I thought I heard a squeak, but I just assumed he'd picked up one of his squeaky toys. He went into our library where my husband watches sports, and jumped up on the loveseat there and the little thing made some squeaks and my husband jumped up and claimed Jasper had found a rat. He set the little baby in the flower bed overnight because he thought Jasper had killed it, but next morning we checked and it was still alive, so I brought it in and set it on some towels in a shoe box in our garage. I put a heating pad underneath the towels on a low setting to keep it warm and managed to find an animal rescue person who specifically takes squirrels. The little baby girl was fine, but hungry, so he went about feeding her and taking care of her. My husband and I were shocked that Jasper hadn't hurt the baby because he makes a huge fuss about squirrels in our yard and I've always been afraid he'd kill one if he ever chased one to ground.
