My cat's having trouble breathing

A couple of times the day before yesterday she made a strange noise like she was trying to cough something up but eventually she quit it and jumped up in my lap and went to sleep - breathing normal. Yesterday my wife phoned to report she was making a strange noise and she had me listen to it over the phone and it sounded like the same sort of thing, but then she stopped it and wanted to go outside. Last night she didn't make any strange noises, but her breathing was very fast and noisy, but it didn't seem to be stopping her from doing her usual stuff like jumping up or attacking the dogs.

Any idea what it could be?

there could be something wrong with her. At 6 pounds, it wouldn't take long for matters to get serious if I delay too long.

even if it turns out to be nothing, it could be an indication of heart disease or a blood clot in the lungs. A vet visit will let you know exactly what is wrong with her. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I always figure it is better safe than sorry. You know that this isn't normal.

She coughed once or twice, but ate a good supper, went outside, came back in, picked a major fight with one of the other cats, tried to kill one of the dogs - in other words business as usual. Her breathing is pretty much normal speed with the occasional double-breath.
