Cats showed up around humans about halfway through that graphic. They've been manipulating their way into our lives for literally thousands of years. And they've chased off most competitors too. Dogs had to work for their keep much of their lives. Cats just got to hang around and be cute (and maybe kill a mouse or two).

Cats have had to work very hard to maintain their place in human endearment.

Near as I can tell, tolerance is their biggest burden. Based upon my cat's constant attitude, tolerating my interruptions of his endless naps is a horrible burden.
