A Massachusetts family says a pet cat who went missing five years ago has returned home after the feline was unexpectedly found.
Elinore Repucci had let her tabby cat Larry out for a walk in August 2013, but he didnt come back after walking out the door. Repucci tells the Newburyport Daily News she and her family spent the next few weeks frantically searching for Larry.
Repucci says she eventually resigned herself to thinking an animal killed Larry, as her home was near the woods.
But an animal rescue shelter in Salisbury, Massachusetts, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from her home, called her Thursday and said they found a cat with a microchip registered to her.
Shelter director Britt Fox Hover says Larry is pretty healthy, but is missing part of a paw.

(2,860 posts)She went missing from our backyard a little over a year ago. She does have a microchip. I'm hoping someone in our neighborhood took her in. We did put signs up on some of the stop signs, but on one called. She turned 16 in November if she's still alive so she's definitely a senior. She was in great health when she took off. I have one of those fold up camping chairs on my back porch and it was the perfect hammock for her. We live in South Florida so it's always warm and she did love the heat. This is her with her late side-kick.

(9,985 posts)It under your control outside. Shit happens but routinely letting your cat roam on its own is putting your cat's welfare and even life at risk every time.

(25,853 posts)but domestic cats should be strictly indoor.
Hope this family learned its lesson and will keep Larry inside from now on.

(9,265 posts)Its almost impossible to keep them in. My daughter and her husband thought it would be harmless to let their cat out on the deck in the summer. Now the slippery little devil slips out the door no matter what you do. In the winter hes soon back meowing to be let back in. I tried telling them not to ever let him out but as we all know, kids never listen.
In England they have a different attitude and most people let cats out.
