Audry bit me today

Someone rang the doorbell, which always sets the dogs off (they are such a "pack" that any indication that someone outside of the pack is here just makes them crazy). I started walking to the door and she jumped up and bit my arm. It's not a serious bite, but it is sore. If it had been a couple of inches closer to the wrist, it could have been serious. Of course, she is fully vaccinated, so there's no worry there.

It just bothers me. These dogs need to be better socialized. They're not vicious, they're just overly excitable.

Especially a dog that you know and love. I’m sorry that happened today. Be sure to keep the bite clean. I got bit by a dog that belonged to my brother-in-law if you years ago. I was bitten in the hand, the shoulder and the top of my head. It was a shit show. That said, his dog was fully vaccinated and still the wounds became infected. Just keep an eye on that bite. I remember feeling so wrung out and upset after the incident because I knew the dog well and never thought something like that could happen.

to stay calm at the doorbell sound. I've seen Cesar Milan do it with several dogs. Call Cesar! Or hire a dog behaviorist to help you train them to not lose their minds at the doorbell. When they're in the red excitement level, they can't think! Really! So Audry s not guilty by reason of temporary insanity...but she needs to work on self control!!!

Any good obedience course, or a refresher, will help you gain control over your dogs. Yes, by nature dogs form packs, but your job is to remain the Alpha Dog, the big boss who rules over them. With some basic boundary training, or even a good sit command, your pups can learn to stop rushing the door and wait at a distance until you release them.

It's not hard, but it does take determination, persistence and consistency to establish the new, desired behaviors, and discourage their bad habits. Terriers are very smart, sometimes too smart for their own good, so they should be eager to work on some new lessons to get some tasty treats.

2 small puncture wounds on one side of my lower arm and a 2 inch scratch complete w/ black and blue on the other side of the same arm. It was sore yesterday, but today I barely know it's there.

Someone else who posted got it right... Audry just got overly excited when the doorbell rang, she really didn't know what she was doing. There was nothing vicious about it.
