Pet Overpopulation

Four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them.

Many cats and dogs who die as a result of pet overpopulation could have made wonderful pets.

1. Friends of Animals provides very low cost spay and neuter certificates.

You can contribute to them or use their services.

Friends of Animals will send you an order form and a directory of participating veterinarians nationwide. You pay Friends of Animals for a certificate which you then take to the vet. Veterinarians are invited to call for information about participating.

This is especially great if (like me) you take in strays and find forever homes for them or you are working with a TNR program in your neighborhood.

2. people think i am nuts for neutering purebred dogs.

i have had a couple dozen dogs in my life, but only one litter of pups. the young bulldogges that i have right now have terrific, healthy bloodlines. but i am not a breeder, and the breeder that i bought from does a fine job. anyone who wants one like mine, i send them to her.

there are just too many dogs and cats out there.

3. If you ever want to adopt a Bullie I have several friend in BD rescue.

2 weeks ago we adopted out a 6 month old beautiful and healthy male. The wealthy owners bought him on a whim.

I understand that you have to be careful about breeding with Bullies because of all the potential health problems but just in case you ever want to you can drop me a line here at DU.
