Related: About this forumMy 16+ year old cat just died today.
She was my friend. I have had her since my husband and I have been together. Longer than I have had my kids. She has always been there for me. Even when I would yell she would forgive me. She always forgave me and loved me no matter what. I am sorry to post this, but I just miss my friend.
She was part siamese. The most beautiful cat I have ever seen. Blue eyes. Very soft fur. But she shed. She was a shedder. And she liked to lay right on my chest. She'd get just close enough so her whiskers would be touching my face. She always wanted attention. She'd walk over my book I was reading and lay right down on it. It annoyed me back then but now it just is making me smile.
Thank you for listening to me. I do appreciate it.

(6,955 posts)It sounds like you have had a wonderful 16 years with a very good friend who loved you as much as you did her. I'm very sorry for your loss.

(21,326 posts)I'd bet everyone in this forum can empathize from experience; we love our critters.
They are the only truly unconditional love we are likely to experience in life. Losing that is a very, very hard loss.
It doesn't pass quickly, either. I am still grieving my old boy who left us in March, even while I take joy in a new addition to the household. Louie will never "replace" Fisbin. They are each unique.
Memories are a great comfort. I am so glad, now, that I wrote down many things I love and remember about Fisbin. When I read them over I can still hear his cranky little voice, ordering me around, and see him dancing for the hoover...
What was your kitty's name?
empathetically,

(5,649 posts)I have a part Siamese cat who loves to lay on my chest too. No matter the age or circumstances, losing a pet is devastating.
I hope you can find peace at this time by remembering all the good times.

(60 posts)I am so sorry about your cat dying. It's such a painful thing.
If you feel like it, I'd love to hear more stories about her.

(8,933 posts)She and my dog jimmy (he died two years ago) survived a fire we had seven years ago. They and another cat we had named Fluffy were all huddled together under the trailer as it burned. They were soaked from the firefighters water trying to put it out. I remember how mortified I was when I heard about the fire and feared the cats were inside and how joyous I felt to learn that they hadn't been inside. Nothing else mattered knowing that my babies were all ok. Fifi wouldn't come out for anyone but me.
She was my baby. Princess Fifi, as she sure thought she was. I would tell the kids that they could tell her anything. Just sit with her and pet her gently and tell her all their troubles and she would keep their secrets. She'd never tell anyone. She always knew when I needed that. Fifi is now buried next to Jimmy.
Thank you for wanting to hear about her. She was a special friend. I knew she was getting up there and had worried about losing her. But I can't imagine her not being there laying on top of my nicely clean clothes I just folded. The rest of the bed with nothing on it and she's laying on my freshly laundered and folded clothes. Probably a dark shirt that will be all covered with her fur now. She loved to do that. I will post more later.

(60 posts)I can almost picture your little fur friends huddling together against the water from the fire hose. The cats must have shared one of their collective lives with Jimmy that day.
Now I'm crying. I never had any pets when I was growing up and was adopted by my first cat at age 30 because she belonged to my boyfriend and now husband. Yes, I was adopted by her. Having to put her down was very painful and I've had to put two other cats down since then and it never gets easier.

(2,301 posts)We all understand how important our fur babies are to us and we all feel your loss. I still miss all of the cats I've lost over the years and time does not diminish the pain of that loss. You gave her a good life and she loved you as much as you loved her. I wish you peace in the coming days and weeks. You will always treasure the memories and pictures of your kitty.

(389 posts)We just lost a kitty of 16 in october. She was more human than many people I know. I'm still not over it and don't know if I ever will be, so I understand and feel for your loss.

(56,031 posts)I avoided your post for hours. I hate these type of posts. They make me so sad. It is important, though, for you to know others understand your pain and share in your sadness. She is lucky to have lived with someone who loved her. "She always wanted attention", and she still has yours...and ours.

(11,065 posts)Pets are family, and of course it hurts terribly when we lose them. Nothing to be ashamed of. Your pain means that you loved her and knew she loved you. Know that she had a wonderful long life with you, and there's nothing better than that.
No apologies necessary... so very many of us have been just where you are and know just how painful it is.

(53,576 posts)maybe it's the unconditional love. In any case, it's a tragedy when they go. I wish their life spans were as long as ours.

(25,578 posts)It hurts like hell to lose a furry friend. In time, I hope you find comfort in your memories and your pictures. Our most recent loss came last summer, and I still have a difficult time looking at pictures of Isaac, or thinking about him. I still miss him terribly.
Peace to you.

(14,524 posts).. our relationship with our furry family members is the contract that we make with them. We know going in that in all probability, we will outlive them. The knowledge doesn't really soften the reality tho, beyond being able to share your pain, as you have done here, with us, who have gone through it ourselves.
Our 11 year old Shih Tzu, Charlie passed a couple of weeks ago and even though we have a house full of other pets, there's a hole left that will remain. We share in your sorrow at your loss and thank you that you honor us with your memories.

(8,933 posts)outlive our furry friends. I knew she wouldn't live forever. And I stayed with her at the end too.... just as i did with Jimmy when we had to put him down. It is the hardest, but I didn't want either of them to be alone. I wanted them to know I loved them and would stay to the end. They are so special... such a special gift to us. They don't judge us or get jealous... unless we give someone else attention I guess. They only want us to love them. They don't ask for anything else. If only we could be half as loving as our animals are.

(14,524 posts)All I can add is this, the finest and most noble "people" I have ever known, never take off their fur coats. Their unconditional love is what I cling to on bad days and relish on good ones.

You both have my empathy. I too have family up on the bridge. I miss those who have passed, but it helps me to cherish the ones I have now even more.

(4,837 posts)The hole in your heart gets less jagged and you learn to live around it.
Don't be surprised if you see or hear or 'feel' her around. I truly believe that animals stay where they've been loved...and your girl was certainly loved.

Believe me I know how you feel.
My old kitty was 1/2 Siamese and we lost her on the 19th, the day before your sad loss.
May our dear animal friends and their spirits live on forever and continue to protect us as they do so well.
Again, very sad for you.

My Buster died less than 5 months ago. I know what you mean about the eyes and being beautiful.
Never feel sorry for positing about such things. Never.
