(5,969 posts)The first days sting the most but it gets better with time. But of course, you never forget your little sweethearts.
My cat had cancer, too, so I know that saying goodbye was a blessing for her in the end as well.

(260 posts)Our sincere condolences. We have lost a few kitties over the years, and while the loss never goes away, the pain does eventually lessen. The unconditional love of a Cat or Dog is a wonderful thing, and an example for me of how life should be lived. I wish the best for you. God Bless you, and Godspeed for Crook.

Our doggy was 15.5 years old and had to be put down last month.
She was the best pet but she was needed in doggy heaven.

(9,445 posts)My best to you. I just recently had to have my sweet female put down. I was lucky enough to live in a small town where the vet came to house to lessen her stress and I could bury her in the backyard.
I'm curious why you named her Crook.

(2,050 posts)I had to do the same to the KittyMonster after 17 years just a year ago
She was one of a kind, she really was.
There are more out there that need a family, I picked a tortishell aka tazmanian devil cat five months ago
Last night she knocked over a lamp and cleared off an end table of everything
At 3 am
But she has found a new family
I hope you find another fur baby soon, don't wait, they are out there waiting already.

(2,809 posts)I'm soon to face the final trip to the vet with my pup now 13, also has cancer but still playful, loving, takes his meds along with treats every morning.
These things upset me on a global scale because the animals are literally nose to the ground, where the worst of carcinogenic carbons of industrial waste pollute even the most pristine areas of nature. It is especially U.S. citizens, rampant consumerism, uncaring corporations and politicians blowing their smokestacks, having set some ideal "exceptionalism" less developed places attempt to emulate. Everything from ocean life to the entirety of the food chain is now at extreme risk,
Just so the likes of the Koch's can make a few dollars more.
And I tell my pup quite often that after going into the light, don't come back here for at least a century. At least until whatever dominant life forms on this planet get the hell over their pretentious toxicity, truly care to balance life in environmentally sensitive ways and achieve the equanimity and conscience for fair resource allocation.

(25,962 posts)Unfortunately, those of us who love our fur babies go through this. My beautiful little 18 year old long haired calico departed us 2 Sundays ago. The vet said she had severe dementia as well as heart issues and was in no pain, she was just weak & ready to die. She's the first of our animals to just die of natural causes. The other 3 cats had various forms of cancer and were in pain so we opted as you did for the vets for them. i hope you have others to grieve with you and share memories of your wonderful friend & family member.
