ORLANDO, Fla.— It’s been more than two years since Hurricane Irma smacked Florida around, and one Florida woman’s cat went missing.

The two were reunited this week, though, when the missing cat turned up in Hillsborough County and the sheriff’s office was able to find the owner.

The cat turned up on Christmas Eve to one of the sheriff’s office’s district headquarters. Deputies took the cat to a veterinarian and found out it had a micro chip with its owners information.

Sheriff’s Deputy Katelyn Kotfila, whose brother Deputy John Kotfila Jr. died in the line of duty in 2016 and has a dog park named after him, reached out to the cat’s owner and organized the reunion.

The cat’s name is Eva, and is now back home with her family.

The sheriff’s office posted images of Eva’s reunion on its Facebook page.
