So there was a dog owner screaming at his dog at the dog park today

because he couldn't catch the dog. Young dog, mixed breed, fine with other dogs. Licked my hand when I got close enough, but I couldn't catch him either..

The owner is screaming because the dog won't come to him, and he's really angry. Finally the guy gets in his car and drives off, leaving the dog at the park.

Owner comes back about 15 minutes later and runs after the dog yelling. Once again he can't catch him. The dog appears to be really afraid of his owner. The guy gives up and leaves again.

Another dog owner and I put our heads together and decided we could catch this dog if we put our dogs back in the cars and used treats to lure him. Well it worked, and I got him on the leash.

Just then the owner came back. He thanked us, leashed his dog, yelled at him, then left.

If the owner hadn't come back I am not sure what I would have done... the dog didn't look hurt, but he was obviously afraid of his owner. I don't need another dog, but I hate to think how this animal is being treated at home.

The thing is - he kept doing the same thing even though it wasn't working. milestogo Feb 2020 #2

He was just making the dog more and more afraid. So I think the next time he lets the dog off leash he's not going to be able to get it back and he'll go through the same sequence.

Some people don't learn from obvious mistakes.
