I say, "Sorry, I have to do the VROOOOM machine again." I imitate the vacuum sound. Then I try to make sure the cat is out of the way. A couple of times, in the past, he and other cats (now gone from this Earth) have actually hurt themselves, racing in mindless panic. He seems to know what I mean now. He hides under a covered chair in the corner.

However, I can see how your way could work. When my children were in the cat-chasing stage of childhood, my cats would wait outside until they heard me say, "It's safe to come in. They're in their beds."

As long as it doesn’t disrupt their nap. We have a Roomba and I thought they’d chase it. Nah.

and make sure they saw it before I turned it on. That seemed to work.

I protected the Christmas tree with it, too.

Our pets have all passed on after long lives. I may get a cat this spring. I don't know.

Would sleep on her bed while I vacuumed around her.

The one I have now just sits there and watches me.

my cats. My cat now runs and hides when I get IT out. I had a brave one-a male-took it upon himself to try and bite the cord to kill the darn noise monster.

One of our cats doesn't care. He's the most laid-back cat I've ever had, nothing fazes him.

Once I was using my shop vac in the house & he stood behind it, where the air blows out, getting blasted in the face by the air & moving his head from side to side like Ray Charles. It was hilarious. I swear if I ever take him for a ride in the car he would probably stick his head out the window like a dog.
