My dog had a tonsil removed today.

He's getting older - almost 12 - and in the past year he's been diagnosed with Horner's syndrome and laryngitis. After the laryngitis his bark never returned to normal and he sounds hoarse all the time. One of the vets suggested he might be developing laryngeal paralysis.

He's had some nausea and I don't know why.

So I made an appointment with the medical director at my vets office. We got in quickly and she suggested we do a full workup. So I left him there and she examined his throat and esophagus under sedation. He had an enlarged and inflamed tonsil, so she went ahead and removed it. Its been sent for pathology.

The other finding was anemia. We don't know the cause.

The bill was huge.

A few more tests are coming up. I'm glad I have pet insurance, and I'm glad I have a great vet who I really trust. She removed the tonsil without stopping to call me about it, and that's fine. Glad to have it done.

He is resting comfortably at home and will be staying home for about 10 days. I'm going to baby him.

I usually only do that in the summer, but he deserves it.

Mixed up a global of PB & banana into low-fat yogurt & froze it in ice cube trays or a small plastic dish. No extra chemicals. Abd cheaper.

How is he doing today?

The vets office called me to check up on him. They said they had reviewed the charges and wanted to reverse the charge for the "psychology consult" because it never happened.

"Psychology consult"?

No, Cytology consult. (I misunderstood her.)

We both started laughing.

Low fat diet, anti-nausea meds. No ice cream.

I haven't gotten a pathology report on the tonsil yet.

So no cancer!

Pancreatitis and anemia.

The pancreatitis is treatable, and if it responds the anemia will get better too.

He will have an ultrasound of his pancreas on mar 17th.
