Related: About this forumSuddenly my dog can't stand up.
His hind legs have given out underneath him.
I took him for a walk a couple of hours ago and he was fine.

near him) he recovered. Hoping for you and your doggie.

(5,812 posts)We had a vet in the family and in addition to rest, he said to give the dog Aleve. I cannot believe how great this worked.

(22,493 posts)A misstep that pinched a nerve at the spine. Does it hurt? Can you take the legs and stretch them out, really stretch them, to put things back in alignment? Last night my dog jumped on and off our bed and was immediately quivering her back right leg and not using it. I stretched it out and this morning she was fine. You can give him a baby aspirin, but no more than that. Liver. Never Tylenol or the like. Toxic.
To get him outside for bedtime potty, put a towel under his tummy and hold the ends over him for support...easier with two people if he's big. Then he can walk on his front legs.
I hope he's better by morning, like my Trixie!

(11,004 posts)Went lame, and couldnt be saved. We had a dog ourselves who had similar symptoms but never went lame, and had to put her to sleep as well. Apparently its fairly common and the slightest injury can trigger it, ours was from jumping off the bed in a Thundershirt.
Get her to a vet.

(8,000 posts)She had developed high blood pressure and that's something that's rarely checked in vet visits. A blood clot can also do that sometimes.
I agree with the others that a trip to the vet is mandatory, but I'm sure you already knew that. I hope it's something minor and fixable.

(16,829 posts)I still can't believe it.
Last night after going for a walk and eating his dinner he stumbled into the living room and tripped over his dog bed. He fell on his side and when he tried to get up again he fell 2 more times. Then he just laid there and didn't try to get up.
I tried putting a pillowcase under him for support and then I realized his front legs weren't coordinated either.
My dog is in the middle of a workup with my vet (for pancreatitis) so I wanted him to see his own vet and that meant waiting till morning. But by morning he was fine. We went to the vet anyway.
After much discussion she identified the problem as vestibular disease. Kind of like vertigo in humans. Apparently this happens a lot in older dogs.
Since the episode was over, there was no treatment. It could happen again. It could last longer. The future is unknown. But at least he's still with me now.
Thanks, everyone.

(15,220 posts)She started scooting in circles and scared us all to death. In her case, she was treated with antibiotics and recovered quite quickly.
Wishing your baby (and you) peace and comfort.
