They like the bottom of their bowl covered, duh! Shake the food around and if the bottom is covered, the cat will be happy.

My tuxedo cat has a new wrinkle to this game, she wants us to walk her to her bowl, make sure the bottom is covered, then pet her while she starts to eat. She loudly meows for this even when the bottom of the bowl is covered in food. I only do this for her if I have to spread around the food anyway, there is a limit on how much I will cater to her whims.
