Related: About this forumTransitioning to new cat litter
Not counting the ferals we feed, we have eight cats, so there are litter boxes all over the house. I recently got a Breeze litter pan, which contains some kind of non-absorbent pellets. Pee goes through the pellets to an absorbent pad below, so you dont have to deal with tracked litter. I set the new box up near a regular litter pan and waited. The good news is that the cats like to pee in the new litter. The bad news is they prefer to poop in the regular litter. So instead of replacing regular litter boxes with new, neater boxes, I just added another litter box to the house.

(57,073 posts)You have a house filled with cats, and boxes.
I only have 1 cat & use World's Best litter & like it. Our princess was getting idiopathic UTIs & vet suggested they might have been triggered by the dust. 🙄

(4,429 posts)expensive, to be sure. But it's great for us (the cat was just awful - if the pan wasn't perfectly clean, he'd find an 'alternate location').

(131 posts)I've been using a REALLY great litter brand for the past ten years.
Dr. Elsey's Kitten Attract
We buy it on Chewy. Also available at PetsMart, etc.
Love it because it is very fine -- probably with kittens in mind -- and it has absolutely zero odor, even with pee and poop in it. Even standing over the box, you would never dream a cat lived in the house because there is NO odor at all.
We love it and would never switch. We use this Dr. Elsey's Kitten Attract even though our cat is now eight years old.

(8,052 posts)I have three kitties, and my female will use the Breeze pans for both pee and poo, but my adult male cat won't use it at all, and keeps using the clay litter pan only, even when I let it go unscooped for a day. My male kitten will occasionally pee in it, but also prefers the clay. I want to get away from regular clay litter because we are bringing the cats into our motorhome for an upcoming trip and it's just too cramped to have smelly clay litter everywhere. Yesterday I finally removed the clay litter pan altogether, and replaced it with a box of newspaper-based pellets, plus the Breeze pans (four pans altogether for three cats)--they can decide which litterbox/type of pellets they like better, but they're gonna have to use pellets no matter what! We'll see if we start having "accidents". God I hope not. Good luck.

(15,089 posts)I thought wed have the most difficulty with our senior cat, who is 20 and opinionated, but she was the first to use the Breeze pan and pees there consistently.

(8,052 posts)not an easygoing kitty but she has latched on to the breeze pans like a champ.

(2,191 posts)I've read that you should have one more litter box than cats, so when I had to be gone overnight one time, I added a second box for my cat. Since then, he prefers to do his separate business in separate boxes.

(15,089 posts)Plus five regular pans. Whats happening is that we have pooping litter pans and peeing litter pans. All the catseven the senior citizensprefer to pee in the Breeze pans, but no one wants to poop in them.
