they cannot fend for themselves and often are left behind in the mad rush.
I have worked with lots of aftermath rescues.

I helped with injured/burned horses and small livestock a few years ago evacuated to a fairground. Most people have no idea how much they are impacted, saying nothing of the wildlife.

I made sure not to say “pets” in my post. I used the word “animals”. I care about all of them.

And I am sad...

They aired a report where local law enforcement had closed down a few roads and bridges so folks who had horses, cows, etc could evacuate them to higher ground. I'd never seen that before but I was happy to see them doing it. The animals were taking it all in stride.

I worry about the animals more than I do people. I fear I may have a personality defect but I'm too darn old to change.

I’m reminded of the old Carpenters’ hit, Bless the Beasts and the Children”, and specifically the lyric:

“For in this world, they have no voice. They have no choice.“

I figure adult humans have a voice and a choice, so I worry more about those who don’t.

I think we are both fine.

There is a native American translation/ideal that the way of the wildlife and other creatures is the way of the humans. When they get decimated, so does civilization. And when they are around, so are we. We are in tandem, an interconnection.

Protect them the children of Bast and Anubis.

Sekhmet protect the wild ones in the hidden places.

Sekhmet protect them for they all are precious and beloved.

the livestock especially. So many of my neighbors have horses, donkeys, sheep, beef cows and goats.

I will never forget the sight of dead hogs and turkeys floating down the highway after the river rose way beyond its crest, five days after the storm was long gone.

Fire ants are survivors. Snakes can swim, too. Alligators are suddenly visible where few think they even exist. The deer, bears, racoon, opossum ... so many creatures we forget about until we suddenly share their habitat.

I pray for all creatures great and small, as the saying goes.
