Related: About this forumPotty Problem. I have always used the method of feed them, confine for about
30 minutes, take outside and they potty, and then praise them to high heaven. My dogs have always been trained in a week or two at the most.
Now the problem: My new poodle waits a good two hours after she has eaten to go - then it is in the house. Should I confine her for two hours - that seem sort of mean, but I can't think what else to do.
Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.

(102,203 posts)to do a long 4-mile walk. When I dog sit others that won't defecate for the life of them after going nearly a mile--despite having been fed and having gone all night long, I really have to wonder. My dogs KNOW that "holding" it is definitely NOT going to be to their advantage. Never had one be "persnickety" in this respect

(14,530 posts)confine her for the 2 hours, and take them all out at the same time.
After your poodle has mastered this, gradually decrease the time of feeding by a few minutes every day.
You can also change the food you are feeding her. Try something for digestive health support. See if that will be easier for her to digest.
She really has no control over how long it takes her to digest food.

(12,595 posts)within 15 minutes. I had been feeding her too much dry food. Now I will do it half n half for as long as it is needed.
Again, thanks for the advice. I love DU - we look after each other

(17,000 posts)their dogs food. Pureed pumpkin (with no added sugar or spice) can help dogs and cats with both constipation and diarrhea. Adding a tablespoon or two (in proportion to their size) to their regular meal is known to help keep them regular. It can also help dogs and cats with indigestion or upset stomachs.Nov 13, 2014
