First, Happy New Year's! Wherever you live there will be some idiots who set off fireworks and fire their guns on NY Eve. If you have dogs be sure to bring them in before dusk so the loud noises don't scare them.
Two years ago I make the mistake of letting my dog out for a last potty break when a bunch of gun nuts started shooting. It sounded like a war zone and scared my dog so badly she jumped a 5ft fence and was lost for almost 2 months. I despaired of ever finding her, but I got a call that someone had seen my posters and her her fenced in and waiting to go home.
I wouldn't want to see anyone go through that heartbreak. I was lucky she was found, but most never see their pets again. So please take extra precautions to keep all your critters safe tonight.
I can recommend a Thunder Shirt for helping to keep nervous dogs calm. Any shirt will work in a pinch if you make it tight and snug fitting with a sewing machine, duck tape, or safety pins.

(15,805 posts)My one cat goes through bouts of aggression and just mercilessly torments his elderly cat mate. I scoop him up and put on his shirt and it calms him down immediately. No more fighting. He usually settles down for a nap when he has to wear his shirt.
