Related: About this forumIs there a run on cat food?
My upcoming Chewy delivery will be missing several items because they were out of stock, so I swung by Target to pick up some Fancy Feast and treats. The Fancy Feast shelves were nearly empty and I wound up buying more than I had planned in varieties my cats arent that fond of, just because I was afraid of running out.
I think were having another of those weird shortages we have nowadays.

(14,637 posts)We make ours, so I don't know. But everything else we get from Chewy is on its way as of this morning.
Some of the manufacturers have changed their formulas/cans/whatever, according to our daughter. Could be the change is causing delays in stock?

(12,462 posts)Make my own cat food for Othello. Cats have specific dietary needs and I would want to meet those needs just with better quality meat.

(14,637 posts)Suffice it to say that I switched my gravely ill 8- and 7-year-old mother and son Abyssinians when I had nothing to lose (they were that sick) and they lived to be 17 and 18. I can't tell you how many people said I was going to kill them.
We now have 6 kitties, ages 10 months, 6, 14, 15, and 18 years old thriving on the same diet.

Thanks DUers for the info.

(14,961 posts)or 7 months. At first I assumed it was recalled, but most other brands are back.
Extremely frustrating when this happens, especially when you have picky eaters.
Definitely a new wave of shortages has been happening. I couldn't find toilet bowel cleaner for about 4 or 5 months. Toilet paper/paper towels came back and over the past month our Wal Mart is down to 1 brand of each when I'm there.

(12,462 posts)And the open stock of cat food was skimpy too. Most of it was pate,Othello hates pate. The open stock was skimpy pickings.
So I bought him the ocean delight 40 can pack of Friskies. And the 40 packs were mostly picked over too.
The ocean delight pack was the second to the last one.
Seems like a weird shortage here..

(6,797 posts)It was hard to find too so when I would find it I would buy one or two boxes. I had to have her euthanized right before Thanksgiving. So I gave the rest to my sister who has a cat that will eat anything.

There's no problem getting cat food, depending on where you buy. But I've noticed that even at our local grocery store, sometimes they will have bare shelves. It seems more like a problem with how shipping is being scheduled (this happens on multiple types of items, like one day, it's pet food, another day it's frozen foods, and another it'll be baking staples). Our local pet food store almost always has some stock of everything, but often it will be just one flat of a particular item. That means that we almost always can get some items there at least as a stopgap, but we're better off ordering on Amazon for best shipping with as many cats as we have, and the special needs of some.
Yes, I know - Amazon. But like or hate them, they keep the goods moving when you need them.

My boys only like ONE kind of wet food (Fancy Feast Naturals Chicken and Gravy) and Chewy lets you buy just 1 kind in quantity. Never had a problem with them and their prices are much better than Amazon.

(3,394 posts)In 2017 PetSmart paid $3.35 billion for Chewy. I dont buy from retailer that sell live animals in their stores. PetSmart stores purchase their live stock from less than caring suppliers.

(7,455 posts)I see the thread stopped a month ago, but the stores here are nearly wiped out. Apparently there's production issues, guessing COVID related. Better stock up if you find any.
