Related: About this forumBought a cooling mat
For Gibby coupla days ago.
High summer here, 35 deg C. yesterday. How the hell do I get her to use it or is it a lost cause? She dug a hole in the garden and lay in that. Then on the laundry tiles. Acts like the cooling mat is a landmine.

(24,682 posts)Maybe put it in a spot that she usually enjoys? Give her a treat when she gets close to it?
I have an almost 14 year old border collie who does the same thing with a heating pad...apparently it is the devil...he has sore old bones and we live in Montana so heat is a good thing. I can microwave a warm moist towel and he likes me to hold that on his hips and shoulders....but the fuzzy heating pad is a NO. Crazy dog.

I threw a dog rug over it, but wasn't sure whether it would still work as planned. I'll try again.
Give your old boy a hug from little Gibby.

(20,521 posts)Gibby is a very small dog, the mat is about 15" x 18" and it was labelled 'Medium'. I've never had one of these before so I assume it's not meant to be the full size of the dog, but a small cold-ish thing they can get comfortable over.
I'll try it; if it works, it works!
