(8,201 posts)1. Thank you so much for posting this. Mary Gaitskill has long been one of my favorite authors.
But I had never heard her read before and--because she takes such risks with her writing--didn't expect her speaking voice to be so quiet and without bravado.
What a treat. Now I love her work even more.

I read a transcript of this and went fishing for a video. I was blown away by her intonation and cadence. Plus, having just lost a very dear and irreplaceable cat, she puts in words why we feel the passing of cherished pets so deeply.
