Jimmy the cat was six months old when he was found dragging his rear feet on the side of the road in Southern Illinois.
Seven months later, Jimmy is walking and climbing stairs thanks to the patience of Naperville resident Rachael Resk and a form of therapy not synonymous with cats: a water treadmill.
Its extremely rare, said Carol Jurca, owner of Canine Physical Rehab and See Spot Swim in Montgomery.
Ive been treating animals for 14 years. Hes the first cat to use the water treadmill, said Jurca, a physical therapy assistant and certified canine rehabilitation practitioner.
Jurca said shes tried with other young cats over the years with no avail. I have been scratched. I have been bitten, she said.

(120 posts)I work at a vet office where we have a underwater treadmill. I don't think we have ever tried a cat in it though. I'm happy to hear Jimmy is improving.

(12,463 posts)In a pool for physical therapy. It was kinda fun. All I could think of is the chariots of fire theme. Anyways it helped me immensely.
I am thinking people should bathe kittens a few times then they won't fear water as much later.
Othello's ok in water at first he complains with a few meows, but when he realizes it's warm and he's safe and all he relaxes in a few seconds.
Then he sits while I bathe him.
I bathed Othello several times as a kitten. He stepped in my paint so I had to bathe him as an adult.
He complained but took the bath ok and put up with me massaging the paint from the fur between his toes . His feet were a disaster. I had multicolor paw prints on the carpet too.
