f/5.6 is usually where I set my camera's aperture, because at that lens opening most of what I see through the viewfinder is in focus, and will be when the picture is taken. Often some of the background is just a little blurry, helping the main subject to stand out some.

I spread bird seed every morning and take pictures of some of the birds who show up.

Do you like to take pictures?

Thanks,
George

Yea I am getting into it as I embrace retirement.
I’ve developed a fascination with old wood houses and barns. It’s the decay that draws my attention. And I have begun to play a bit with photo editing to make them monochrome, but leave one color to isolate some sort of focal point like a rain barrel or painted door.

Keeps me sane when DC politics gets to be too much. You should join the photography forum here on DU. It’s under the Arts& Humanities, sub heading-Photography.

Take care!

If you get onto the Photography page, look at the heading "Photography (Group)" and all the way to the right click on "Archives." Enter George McGovern in the "Post author" box and below that change the "Start date" to May 8 2020 and a listing of my contributions will come up.

I am several years into retirement. Getting older though, my heavy full-frame Nikon kits got to be too heavy, so I switched to Olympus mirrorless. Much better.

What camera(s) do you have? Are your old houses and barns photos online?

Thanks,
George

I’m still rather shy of my work. I will one day, when I feel more confident!

I picked up a used Sony A7ii last year. I thought the iv was going to be coming out soon and I would make the jump to a new one with better specs. But COVID put a damper on that!

I am shopping around a bit and like the color science in Nikon. I am looking at the mirrorless Z7ii and once I know what is happening with any rumors of a z8 or z9, then I will finally take the plunge. Yea, I had to go mirrorless because my Canon 6D was becoming a “brick”.

I went with Sony as I heard they were the current leader in mirrorless. Since that is quickly changing, I am now sizing up all the brands to see which will meet my needs. The A7ii is only 24MP so I want to jump to 40-50 with my next purchase. FullFrame, high MPs along with good screen and viewfinder resolution are importand for my old eyes!!

I am thinking the Nikon z7ii, along with the 35mm and 85mm lenses would do me great.

I will have a peek at your photos!!
Take care!

The z7ii looks like a terrific camera. Hope it all works out!
