(23,099 posts)Finley is full blooded Aussie, however he is a throwback. Mom has produced over 80 puppies and all had the normal small stubby Aussie tail, but not Finley. She said he's a throwback to 100's of years ago when one of their progenitors had full fluffy tails. This doesn't show it well, the tip part got cut off, but it's a long fluffy reddish tail that usually curls over his back. I'm just learning to post pix and can't use most of mine right now, but I'm working on fixing that and will post something that shows him better soon.

(9,664 posts)Smart, loyal with a generally sweet disposition.
Our son and DIL have a Lab/Aussie mix - looks mostly like a big, black Lab except for that cute stub tail and some funny hair swirls (cowlicks??)
Finley looks like a great doggie and yes, more photos would be good too.

(23,099 posts)They are great companions, so friendly and fun and OMG loving.
I love this breed, unless you live near cattle. They can't stop themselves from trying to herd the cattle and the ranchers get pissed! That's how I lost my first Aussie.

(5,420 posts)Fortunately, lark, it appears you don't have cattle around nearby. Does Finley love to run? Chase things?

(23,099 posts)Aussies are so funny. He runs outside pre-emptively barking, runs half the way to the back fence, stops looks around intently, realizes there's nothing to bark at, shakes his head, does his business, then runs around the perimeter of the fence, double checking that there's not some mutant dog walking by our house that he has to protect us from. Usually several rounds of this are needed before he comes running back to the door to get let back inside.
His favorite game to play with other dogs is chase. Our neighbors have Corgi mix dogs and Finley and the younger one play rocket, taking turns chasing and being chased until they are about falling over with exhaustion.
Yeah I learned my lesson the hard way about Aussies in ranches. 1/2 acre yard for him to run in, daily (and I do mean every day) 30 min. walks in the morning, neighbor dogs to play with, fetch and other human playtimes, and plenty of snuggles and Finley is one of the happiest dogs I've known.

(23,099 posts)And I agree about the coat too. He has so enriched our lives, even the cats are making friends with him finally.
