(12,462 posts)Madoc is going to be a mighty fine feline when he gets older.
May I suggest you get a forward facing cloth dog carry bag for small dogs and take your boy on walks and rides in the car.
Expose him to as many different things as you can. That way when he gets older he wont be afraid of new situations.
I have a thing that looks like a satchel it has straps for my arms and all but the satchel is open in the front and Othello can ride in my bag. It has a clip built inside to connect his harness so he wont be able to jump out and the bag.It is big enough to curl up and sleep if he wants to.
Its got pockets to carry feline necessities and stuff he wears a harness in the bag and his leash is connected to my arm. He loves it when I take him out in the bag. The one time he isnt anxious.
I go to starbux with him sometimes for a little cup of whipped cream ,makes his day.

(26,256 posts)And just a little while ago I heard a meow. Not a Madoc soft little 'mew' but a full strength meow. So, maybe Sophie's spirit stopped by to see how we are coping.

(21,417 posts)and when she will be back. He can't understand the change in the household composition so he keeps checking to see if things will go back to normal.
My uncle had two dogs, but one of them was especially close to his wife. When she died of cancer, that dog would lie outside all day in the hot Arizona sun, looking down the driveway for her to come back. She (the dog) had to be literally dragged (too big to carry) indoors to get out of the desert sun.
I know the feeling of a deceased pet somehow "being there." I went through it when my previous cat, Leo, passed away. I did not have another cat at the time for consolation. Who is to say whether there really was a spiritual presence or if it was my grief over losing Leo that produced the sense of a presence? It did not frighten me but was strangely comforting.
It was 6 months before I felt ready to get another cat. As I got wrapped up in her little kitten antics my love transferred to her and I stopped feeling Leo's presence.
There was one day, however, when the new kitty, Ember, was around 6 months old that her behavior really "spooked" me. Ember and I were in the living room of my apartment. My bedroom is off the living room and the bedroom door was open. Ember was sitting on the arm of my couch. Suddenly she stood upright on her two hind legs, staring into the bedroom. Her body was on full alert and I knew she was seeing something. A chill ran through me as I got very close to Ember in order to check the view from her position. Sure enough, she was staring at a cat in the bedroom. She had just discovered the mirror above my dresser.
