Related: About this forumSomething very unexpected happened at the vet's, today. I walked in with 1 kitten, walked out with 2
He asked me if I was looking for a companion for Madoc - he's the perfect age - and I said yes. 'Well', says he. 'We have two kittens here that need a home. So, I ended up bring home a dark, handsome young guy I'm tentatively naming Gruffydd, or 'Griff' for short. Also toying with Merlin. Just because.
Right now he's still in the scared, confused mode so this is the only pic I have been able to get. In my limited experience, it will take a couple of hours for him to start to feel a little less nervous. It appears Madoc is following him around.
As soon as he's comfortable, there will be LOTS more photos. In this photo he looks like a black kitten but he actually seems to have some other tints running through his coat. I'll know better when I can see him in actual sun light.

Madoc has a brudder!

(44,778 posts)I had two black female kittens littermates that lived with me for about 15 years. When they were kittens they were so active they would do skateboard tricks with each other

(27,833 posts)There were 3. Someone at the vet clinic adoped the tortie. There was a ginger female and this cutie. The decision was SOOO difficult but they said the ginger was still pretty shy and a little self protective.
Griff just seems to be an explorer. I have NO idea where he is, right now, but know he will eventually show up. He does like to play with wadded up paper balls so that's good.
So, I will just be patient.

Mikey goes back to his mom's today. It's the best thing for him. I am glad to have been able to care for him while his mom was in an RV. But now she's in a house in our old neighborhood so he can go outside and be happier. I can still go visit anytime.
Congrats on solving your issue about a companion for Madoc, that was perfect.

(132,302 posts)perfect companion for Madoc. That is why you could not get to the vet until today,
Welcome to the family, little one. Long and happy life to you.

(27,833 posts)He's pretty scared and confused but I'm just going to spend time reassuring him. He's eating, right now, so that's a good sign.
I might end up keeping both boys back in the playroom, for a couple of nights, just to see how things go during the day.
And he feels like he could use a bath, but I'm going to wait a few days before attempting that. I'm getting pretty good at it but I just want him to start settling in, with as little trauma as possible.

The thing is our cat is 9 and so well adjusted we're afraid a kitten might upset his whole demeanor.
It's tempting, though.

(15,107 posts)Not quite sure why you think it was "unexpected."
The kitties know who to go to when they need a loving home that will spoil them rotten. Madoc may have whispered into Griff's ear, too.
Can't wait for the pics of them all curled up in a heap together!

(27,833 posts)She was a pretty little girl.
Besides, I just might possible have to be sure and have some room for Mittens, should she tire of being feral.

(11,088 posts)Thanks for that info!
It would be wonderful if Mittens took the plunge into the lap of cat-luxury!
(preferably before winter and hard freezes really hit...)

(4,687 posts)Glad you have another kitty, to keep, Maddoc, from being a lone kitty. Especially since he had 3 litter mates, for most of his early months. Griff and he should be fast friends. Their lives will be more active, stimulating and entertaining, to their advantage. You will also see the unique personalities blossom. Cats like company, too. My 3 are often snuggled up with each other or me. They are cool with spreading out into the nooks and crannies for them around the house. Then we find our way back to the futon or my bed to cuddle. Keep us posted and send pictures. Thanks.

(27,833 posts)Madoc wants to show he's the top cat in the house so he can be a little hissy and issues a few low growls. Gryff is still in that 'I'm not sure I can really, truly, deepy trust you' stage so I'm just letting him roam free and he'll figure out there's no threat, here.
I don't know his background, other than being found along side a busy highway, but I am suspicious that, before he and his siblings were found and handed over to the vet, he hadn't spent much time with people. He's by NO means feral. Last night he was giving me head bumps and kisses and really enjoyed some cuddles but that was when he was up in the confined play room. In the wide open spaces, he's a little nervous.
The important thing is, I showed him the litter boxes and he's using them. And, right now he's doing zoomies around the house, which is pretty darned cute.
I have to attend a memorial service for my cousin, today, and run a quick errand to refill my anti-anxiety prescription (go figure) and pick up some more kitten food tomorrow but other than that, I intend to devote myself, full time, to socializing Gryff with the family.
