Related: About this forumI have to hid bread from Madoc!
Ok, pretty much anything in that food group. He will claw through the packaging and start munching away.
I'd blame my brother, who gave Madoc his first taste o,f bread on Thanksgiving but the truth is, this habit started out when he vandalized a package of tortillas, weeks earlier. Christmas Eve we caught him at the beginning of an attack on a loaf of 12 grain bread.
I wonder if anyone makes bread boxes, anymore.

Sometimes old fashioned solutions are the best ones. Good luck with your bread-loving kitty!

(57,073 posts)Leave a bunch of dry food out & see if he still chooses bread.
Yes, bread boxes are still sold on Amazon & likely other stores.

(26,263 posts)Both boys are growing so fast, it's hard to gauge exactly how much to feed them. And, they seem to be getting a bit bored with kitten food. I mix in a little of the feral's wet food, and so far that seems to be working.
I did find Bed Bath & Beyond has bread boxes so I know where I'll be spending the next 20% off coupon.

(2,523 posts)a couple of years ago, 'Taz' would hunt down and drag loaves of bread under the bed to eat at leisure.
He was a bit feral at the time and didnt like to be picked up or scolded. But slowly he discovered he was always well fed and loved.
Now he's a talkative extremely affectionate some times pain-in-the-ass cuddlebug. And he's lost his obsession with bread.

(26,263 posts)Madoc is, when it's time to eat. Or, when he THINKS it's time to eat. All Gryff does is an occasional cooing sound, like a pigeon. Well, until they are in carriers, in the car, and the car is moving. Then they are both VERY vocal.
Both are so incredibly cuddly, which is so nice.

(21,466 posts)trill and cooing sounds as a kitten, right at the start of a zoomie. But she almost never meows, not even for food. When it's near her feeing time, she proactively disrupts anything I'm doing to make sure I remember that she is there. If I am late with her feeding, things start falling to the floor. She does not wake me if I oversleep but when I get up, I have an obstacle course of items to walk through.
Occasionally she meows when she wants to play. And, since she is an only cat, she cries when I leave the apartment. I can hear her all the way down the hall when I get on the elevator.
What she lacks in vocal communication she makes up for in body language, from pacing to facial expressions.

(12,470 posts)One time I closed my closet door. In about a half hour of not seeing Othello around I started to panic looking everywhere for him.
I found him in the bedroom closet after I ran everywhere else looking for him.
When I found him he was sitting there looking up at me with a took you long enough already, look

(12,470 posts)Its just not often ,with him its his eyes and facial expressions,oh and his tail.
Its so sweet when I pet him he curls his tail around my arm like its prehensile. .melts my heart everytime he does it.

(21,466 posts)She shows affection by rubbing my face or burying her face in my shoulder and neck at night when I lie down. Once I doze off, though, she leaves. She loves having her head and behind her ears petted, and even under her chin, but will not let anyone touch her anywhere else.
She hates being held and does not like being in my lap. But she does like to knead my legs and and side, purring the whole time.
She just is not comfortable with anything that feels confining to her. She's a very lively, playful cat and craves the attention of interactive play with her toys or playing ambush games (with me as the target) or peek-a-boo around corners of furniture. She loves company and attention, just not cuddling.

(34,109 posts)Whenever I actually eat breakfast I like to make eggs and I also like to add mushrooms and cheese. He sits at my side and waits so I always make one more egg than I want and add enough mushrooms as needed for him to have his allotment. He sits right on top of my leg when I eat this and gently paws me now and again to remind me he is there and wants to share. He just cleaned up my plate. He is so old and has been so sick and pulled through once again, I cannot see not sharing.
HE is the reason I do not go vegan, at least I am making him the reason. Soon I will have to fess up or go for it!

(26,263 posts)She really liked them, for a while. I also gave some to Gryff, during his short lack of appetite. I'd just leave out the onions, salt and pepper and add extra cheese.
I should look up a list of food that cats absolutely can NOT eat.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)I don't use salt and pepper generally and no onions with my eggs. I do add cheese but it has to be not feta for him to be interested. He LOVES the mushrooms. I think there is a little concern if they are not just regular mushrooms you get in the store and not cooked in anything other that oil or butter. This cat is so thin it is hard to look at him. He has been so so sick and it looks like a year after the vet said he needed to go he is running around and seems fine. It took a while but here he is. I just want him to be happy now, he will be 14 this summer.

(26,263 posts)I was making eggs, opening cans of sardines and tuna, shredding chicken - anything I could think of to perk up Sophie's appetite. She also liked 'Sheba' cat food. But, it was her time to go. I'm designing a memorial stone for her and Boudicca.

(34,109 posts)I have made all kinds of food for the two inside. They will not touch it. They only want canned food and they lick the gravy off and leave the rest. They both hate pate but will eat some dry food.
I saw a new cat this morning carrying a big mouse or possibly a rat (we are on a farm so rats are just a part of the deal here). Such a cool cat, almost all white except for a few round dots on it and the tail that had a large white tip but the rest of the tail is tiger striped! It is most likely from the feral colony the woman across the road has and she has told me if I want any of them that show up over here it is OK to just see what happens. LOL, we will see what happens I guess.
