She was right there, waiting for me. Oh, also saw the suspected father of Madoc. His nose is PINK, not black. But the markings are startling similar. He's still pretty nervous but he is sheltering in the old cat shelter that is actually in my yard!! I'm going to get some new straw and reinforce it. Anyway, here's the Mitten Scritch.

(26,259 posts)And their sense of timing for feeding time is pretty spot on.
I wonder if they are also getting fed somewhere else. I know that a woman on the far end of the subdivision also feeds some ferals. Maybe there's a cross over.

(34,374 posts)We're under a Winter Storm Warning here in Lansing for 6-12" of snow. It's a beautiful day today so I made sure that Outside Kitty's little house was cozy in preparation for it. Outside Kitty is the most militant feral I've ever met. He refuses to be tamed. His kingdom is our courtyard and I've been feeding him for almost 7 years. My late husband and I have rescued and homed over 125 cats over the years, and Outside Kitty is the only one who insists on being feral. I can pet him slightly but then he takes a swipe at me, lol. So I bought a little insulated shelter for him and added soft fleece pads in it that reflect his body heat. I made sure his little house was as secure as possible.
Here he is waiting for breakfast. If I'm late, he really lets me know.

(26,259 posts)Weather Underground is saying 6" tomorrow and no accumulation on Thursday. Other sites are calling for 8 to 14". I even saw one that warned of a possible 30" in the south of the state. So, who knows. They are saying this could possibly be the heaviest snow we've had since 2016. I remember the Winters of 2013 through 2016 as being real nightmares.
It just seems that since it's going to be in the 40's today and then rain, when the snow starts to fall it's not going to immediately start to accumulate. And what ever we do get, Thursday is supposed to be very windy so it might be a waste of time to clear the drive and walk ways, any time before Friday.
I'm bringing in all of the bowls, tonight, and I'll see how things are in the morning. If it's dicey I'll put the bowls right at my property line (they den in my neighbor's yard). If it gets TOO bad, I'll try stomping them a path through the snow to the bowls.

(26,259 posts)Everyone but Mittens the Kitten remain quite nervous but that distance they keep is getting smaller.
I just love my two feline families. Both the indoor and outdoor are such a great distraction from the chaos happening outside this little bubble of fur babies.
Having both indoor kitties and feeding and sheltering feral kitties, I agree! When the world goes crazy, I concentrate on my fur babies and all is right in my world. Thank you for sharing your fur babies with DUers!
The ferals that we are feeding are getting friendlier, but they are nowhere near where Mittens is yet. They now come out and get within 1-2 feet of me and look directly at me and will occasionally say hello as well, well at least the mostly white with a little yellow tabby does. There's also a much smaller kitten that is so freaking cute who comes around now for am food. He too is warming up, but that just means he doesn't hide until I am at least 5 ft. away. He is so cute, bright eyed and busy tailed and hyper, we love watching him.

(2,949 posts)Dogs yes but no cats. Having said that, I really enjoy reading these posts and seeing the pictures. Carry on.
