Is he a stray cat you rescued and a little spooked at humans and now finally getting around trusting you fully?
We rescued a stray cat two winters ago. She is now a happy indoor kitty. She trusted our other indoor cat before she fully trusted us. It took months for her to be comfortable on our laps or not get spooked if you make a sudden move.

He has always been anxious and skittish. Have no clue what he might have gone through but it effected him deeply.

I can remember him when he was a kitten playing with his toys when I was laying down to sleep.

I was awoken by him screaming and lots of hard thumping.I got up walked into the livingroom where he was and he was in his tunnel trying his hardest to rip a stuffed little wolf apart that I gave him.

He loved that wolf but he was stuck in some place inside I did not know. He was in a rage kill biting the wolf over and over taking a gasp breath screaming and biting and biting.

It was very violent. It went on a long time until he was completely exhausted.

I just sat on the couch and watched feeling tears well up. He has been traumatized by something bad. It wasent normal play.

All I wanted to do is scoop him up into my arms. But I thought if I did that it would freak him out.

So for his 2-1/2 years he has very slowly come around.

He has slowly become more affectionate and trusting.

I think whoever fostered him did the best they could.

So laying on my chest was a huge thing for him.

Everynight he waits in a place out of my veiw until I am done doing my bedtime routine. (Take meds set alarms etc.
Until I look like I am asleep before he comes and lays down against my belly. ( I am not really sleeping) slowly with great caution he walks then carefully lays down and finally I feel his precious head hit my body.

Now he waits on my nightstand. Does the same routine..a bit better.

He jumps away if you look at him directly for more than a second.Still does this. But once in awhile he will gaze into my eyes and touch me with his paws on my face.

He rarely meows. But when he does I get so excited and tell him I love his voice.

Day by day he is getting better. I want to be worthy of his trust. I will wait for him even if it takes my whole life to earn it.

I dont know if I could stand knowing what happened to my best freind . If it was a human I would want to hunt them down. I would go Sekhmet on thier ass.

I have Complex PTSD.
So I know how trauma can effect you even years later.

I think that something traumatic is what happened to my little Othello. He is my love, and
my world and I will never let him get traumatized again..never.

hops on my chest and tummy for pets and snuggles. Cat behavior is mysterious for sure. Those cat displays of affection get me all emotional ❤️
