To all those with cats...

There are a lot of us dealing with the various peccadillos of our babies when it comes to food...

Sent the hubby to the store with a shopping list. On the list was "Fancy Feast Dry Cat Food." I just got off a 30 minute phone call with him, wherein we discussed 1/2 our brood being tired of the Filet mignon and the other half being "meh"... so then discussing the other two flavors they have, along with the various nutritional readouts.

Told hubby to get the small pkg of one, and medium of the other, and we'd see which they prefer without having to run to the store for a refill within the next couple of days (I'm feeding 10, plus a couple of neighborhooder's who share). Asked his opinion of the decision at which, being the guy, I guess, he came back with, "well... the little bag is 8.00 and the medium is (I didn't really hear). I just say, Ok, so..." He said, "Yea, I guess you're right... now, what about the chili beans for us tonight? 1 can or 2? I love it when I send my husband to the store!

My cats are on a -we need to shake up the food flavors around here- kick. It's gotten important enough one cat just stares daggers at my husband when he says "suppertime!" Another, runs and hides. Most run for the canned food. Those that are left are standing guard on my desk, eyeballing whatever I'm eating and wondering why I'm not feeding it to them!

Is it tied to the changing seasons, you think? Or do they know that cat food is disappearing from store shelves and they want to drive Mama bonkers a little bit more?!

Regarding food.

Leaves it uneaten in his bowl. A hunger strike.

One day he will eat up his gravy lovers fancy feast.
2 days later he wont touch it.
So I switch to beef. He likes beef...nope.
Better luck next week.

He wont eat actual meat or any human foods . He will sniff but he doesn't even try it. The only human food he will eat a teeny bit of is teryaki beef jerky broken into teeny pieces fed one by one it has to be jack links brand too.

Yeah I get turned into a tizzy to make Othello happy.

I go through the exact same thing. Fancy Feast. I wonder if they have bad batches or something?

I thought I had finally found one that he really liked, and so I ordered a case of it on Chewy. Now he turns his nose up at it.

That happened with the beef gravy lovers, and then later the chicken hearts gravy lovers. (He won't eat pate any more). I tried the smaller container appetizers and at first it looked like I had found a winner, and then.... finicky.

I guess he is like us, just wants things changed up from time to time. My 2 previous kitties (each lived at least 20 years!) where we had friskies dried and wet food. Never finicky at all about it.

Oh well. So now, whatever he had for breakfast, I try to give something different for dinner.

Thing too both fancy feast and friskies.

One day recently O ate his breakfast ok. But went into the bedroom to lay down.

Later he came to me when I was on the couch. He was giving me I dont feel good look.

He verped a couple of times.
I placed him on the floor and he lost it.

Sometimes I do think the food makes them feel bad.

Sometimes Othello gets that maybe I shouldn't of eaten that he pauses and does the am I going to puke or not thing..than he spends most of the day sleeping and turns down lunch.

The food sometimes might make them queasy.

Are there regulations on the freshness quality of meat in cat foods.

I know they get some proteins from rending plants, it looks like brown sugar. Maybe that makes the food bad.I wont go into what rending plants use as protein sources here. Its pretty gross and upsetting.

I do have some canned food and they get some, every day.

It's the ferals who REALLY enjoy some pate mixed with the kibble and that pate is hard to find. I guess if they are hungry, they'll settle for dry.

They are on home cooked mostly. No dry food as it is bad for them, it is hard on kidneys and has loads of carbohydrates. Cats are not supposed to eat carbs, in their natural diet they would only eat small amounts eaten by small animals. There is one brand one flavor of canned food They can eat and two of my boys are getting maybe a bit sick of it though, really my siamese boy. So I tried a fish one of that same grain free brand which was delivered by accident- he likes it but the brand seems to have discontinued it for now😹

My outdoors eat a mix of high quality dry and canned. But if I get them inside as I hope to do soon, they will be weaned off of dry.

I think they just go through phases at times. Imagine eating the same thing all the time. I have to do that most of the time due to bg issues.

Soooo, wanting to give him some special treats recently, I got him a number of cans and pouches of high end stuff from the pet store. He has pointedly ignored all of them. Apparently, the more expensive they are, the less he likes them. He did, however, like his bacon and cheese omelet with salsa this morning.

Thank goodness he loves poached chicken.

Andy has to have “urinary” food now as he had bladder crystals. So I had to change from Purina One Indoor which he and his brother Charlie loved - if I didn’t put a new bag in the cupboard right away they would tear it open and chow down. After trying some of the fancier kinds ($$) they half-heartedly ate Iam’s Urinary and now they like it. Had a torn bag episode with the last Chewy order so I know it passed the test.

but they'll fight you for ham! Eggs... meh... 'sides, if eggs are in the picture the dog is first in the kitchen! (LOL)

I frustratingly say this 2-y.o. puppy has got to be the dumbest dog I've ever seen. But he may have redeemed himself a bit tonight. I had supper in the oven and wasn't paying much attention to it, having set the timer. Instead, my attention was glued to Infinity War for the Umpteenth time.

Well, the oven timer went off. But instead of popping up to see about supper and turn the noisemaker off, I sat there watching TV. Lexy, my hound, came in and sat there and when I didn't move or pay attention to her, she turned to make her aei-oo howl and LEAD me to the oven! I realize the timer noise probably isn't cool to her ears, but wow! She actually did something smart! Saints above be praised, there may be hope for her yet! (LOL) Of course, she LOVES mama's cooking...

So that earned her not only special praise and hugs from Mama, but also a huge slice of ham all of her own - no sharing with anyone else. I swear, I saw that dog grin!

I bought bag after bag of IAMS and other expensive foods. Kitty would eat them for a few days and then stop. I gave all those expensive bags to the food pantry.

Feeding her was a real PIA.

Then, I happened to buy FANCY FEAST SEAFOOD WITH GARDEN GREENS.

She eats every bowl. I'm guessing it's something she had before she was sent to shelter where we adopted her six years ago.

No problem any more! Although she does love treats too much and is a bit overweight.

I good friend of mine figures their products to be the best to buy as after all, who has been in the pet food business for years? Ralston Purina, that is who! They have more information than any of these other places, like IAMS. (Mr. and Mrs. Kitties didn't much care for that stuff either!)

I am glad they are still around and making healthy foods for our dear furry friends!

Ain't that the truth! We really are their slaves! But oh, what beautiful masters they are! And they feel so wonderful cuddling up to you at night... especially when they beat you to bed and warm your spot for a half hour or so before you get into bed.

And is there anything more special than to finally be booped by a cat with a twinkle in his eye? Or having a kitten softly pat your cheek. Or, my favorite, having my rescue lay down in my arms beside me in bed and turn his head to look up at me with that look that says I'll always love you. It melts your heart and the tears of joy and gratitude start flowing all on their own. The only thing that comes close to it is the first time I held my newborn daughter in my arms and she looked up at me in all that trusting innocence.

(And yes, I have checked and all 3 of those veggies are safe for cats.)

They don't really like any of them that much but I give them a can of it a day just because it is a good idea they say.

The ones they like the most is the grilled beef (shredded) and also the ocean whitefish w/gravy and also the salmon w/gravy. Some types they won't eat at.

This is too much at times as a lot of it goes down the garbage disposal I'm sorry to say.

Once in awhile I give them a can of real tuna. They sure love that juice!

Sounds like they either changed the recipe, or left out something that added a bit of color to it. Cats are supposedly color blind except for a few colors like red. They're cuing in on something, tho...

BTW... hubby wants to know if anyone else is having trouble getting Fancy Feast Tuna at the stores. Evidently, he's having a really hard time finding it. I've not looked at Chewy, it's the first time he's mentioned it to me (shrug).

When it comes to the canned Fancy Feast, we have to watch out. These cats are so smart. They love the gravy based cans. But regardless of what it is, they'll eat the gravy, or broth, or whatever it is in the middle... and leave everything else untouched! (LOL)

At least not so far. *knock wood*

She has a very sensitive stomach, and any kibble is apt to lead to throwing up. She seems to like everything, but some things don't like her, if you know what I mean.

We tried a variety of canned foods, but Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly seems to agree with her better than anything else we've tried so far. It only comes in one flavor, but she still seems to love it as much as the first time we gave it to her.

I don't have any issues with sensitive stomachs, but I'm always on the lookout for foods that will be easy on Miss Izzy's intestines. She's so prone to constipation issues, and with her shortened and downward pointed spine that interferes with normal movements, I worry about her. As it is, I'm watching her real close to see if she needs to go to the vet for the first time in years for the issue. She's so aged, I worry about her. She's 20, and this is so hard on her system. I've had Blue in the house before; it's not their favorite, to be sure. But if there's a version that's made for what ails Izzy, I'm all for trying it!

Now, I'm turning into puppy bowl prelims for some cuteness overload!

again!

I just placed an order from Target. I bought six 48 oz. bags of the Fancy Feast Ocean Fish, Salmon and Garden Greens. The price was $7.79 a bag. Times two it is a bit cheaper and you get more than what Chewy will sell you or Amazon.com will. I checked Chewy out earlier today and have their prices ever shot up!

I don't much care from Amacon so I do my best to avoid them. I read the reviews on this food there and it sounds like they had some bad (outdated) batches that they sold that sickened quite a few cats!

I've bought cat litter and food from Walmart at times too. I don't like giving them a lot of business either but what are you going to do?

Target had a fair enough price on the cat treats made by Friskies. A 20 oz. canister of the Beachcomber flavor was a bit less that $8.00. This is just an FYI post.

We need to do the best we can for our best friends in life and this is another option. It sure makes life a lot easier having the cat litter delivered!

Actually, it was the Purina One, but they're weird... it's like the rest of the line is close enough in taste they'll K'O the whole line. They did that with Friskies from the start. None of them will abide anything Friskies in the house at all. (LOL)

Right now, we're doing okay... I picked up a couple of smaller bags of different flavors dry Fancy Feast, and actually found a box of FF wet food hubby said he couldn't find anymore.

I have a habit of looking deep into the shelves if I don't see something up front, as well as searching above and on the top of the shelving units. It takes me longer to shop than him, but I actually tend to find what we need. (gryn)
