Madoc is wising up

When the puma foot pounces didn't stir me, this morning, he switched to kitten kisses with snuggles and purrs. That worked.

Best way to start the day - toes in tact and affection from my furry little 'bad boy'.

When you said "furry little bad boy" I had a good chuckle. I have had many cats over my whole life (67), and all were different but all were very loving until my latest... If he was an outdoor cat, Piper would be the alpha male, I'm sure! From the moment his little paw pads touched our floor, he has been in attack mode and his main method is biting. He's been with us a year and a half now, and we just kept showering him with affection in hopes of him calming down, and it is finally working. He is quite the character and we love him dearly.

3. The funny thing is, I've hand raised Madoc since he was 4 weeks old. I NEVER rough house played

For a while I also had his 3 siblings and they were pretty mellow. Madoc has always had a feisty streak but deep down, he's a sweet boy.

I have absolutely no info on Gryff's background. He was abandoned, with his siblings, alongside a very busy road. Someone brought them to the vet.

I brought Madoc in to see the vet for something, just shortly after I lost his sister, Morgan, to a genetic digestive issue. He asked if I was going to get him a companion. He'd been with me the whole time with the 4 kittens (2 were adopted by a friend). I said yes and he said, 'Well, I've got a couple, just his age, in the back room that need a family. I fell absolutely head over heals for Gryff, the instant he melted in my arms. And he's been a snuggle boy, every since.

We joke about him and say he was "born-bad" because we have no history on him. It may be that his early kitten time was very rough. He is a real cute guy and is turning into a lover too. He has a really high voice for a big tom, and belts it out when he bounces off the walls chasing something. We are happy he is with us now.

Madoc meows when I'm fixing the food bowls and occasionally when I'm giving him scritches, or he sees something (that I don't) floating over our heads. That's kind of freaky.

Gryff gives off more of a 'coo'. I did hear him meow when Madoc was picking on him. It was like he was desperately trying to get my attention. It worked!

I wish everyone could have the experience of having a close animal companion or two.

It is so amazing how our feline friends can see and hear things we can't. Have you ever seen Madoc staring at a wall like he is seeing something you don't?

One of our other cats is named "Rocket" because he could be on one side of the room, and before you finished blinking he would be on the other side of the room. No kidding! He is a Russian Blue and his body shape is similar to a cheeta. He can also jump from the floor and land (with grace) on top of a door edge that is swinging! He is fun to watch but he is giving us more gray hair than we already have...

There's just something special about both. Raising Madoc from a tiny, helpless kitten and watching him grow and learn has been amazing. Bringing a shy, nervous and slightly frightened Gryff home from the vet, who kindly gave him to me, and watching him gain confidence and develop into a total love bug has been such an enriching experience. And every step forward with the Ferals - it's hard to explain how happy that makes me feel.

Oh, and welcome to DU!!

5. I love wake up snuggles

Othello tends to snuggle in the morning.as long as I refrain from looking into his eyes. He jumps up real fast and jumps off the bed. I can give him sidelong looks.

He walks on my hip as I pet him he flops onto my belly and into my armpit.

I skritch his belly and chest his sides even massage his front paws. His back paws are very ticklish.

I love the mornings with him.

He comes out at night and parks himself on me when Im watching msnbc. Like a half hour before bedtime.you can set a clock to it.

When he's lounging he is facing away from my face (the direct eyes thing) he gives me winkies and I give them back but he cannot handle me looking at him directly (weird I know) I pet his face, cheeks ,head, back, legs. He loves it. Thats how he tells me its bedtime. Other than playtime he keeps to himself most of the day in my bedroom unless I take a nap.

She'd head butt me on my arms or legs, but never did that sweet head nuzzle.

Gryff is the KING of head nuzzles and Madoc allows them. The quickest way for me to settle them down is to kiss them on the top of their heads.

My Stanley is even more affectionate now, at 6 years old, than he was when he was younger. It's amazing how they change over time. I love da kitties! All kitties!
