A much needed snuggle

I brought the kittens down to the den for some much needed distraction. They bounced, bounded, hopped, jumped, pounced with the big boys for almost 2 hours. Then Arthur let me know he'd had enough and needed some rest and a snuggle.

I've got one snuggling me right now. Willow is partially immobolizing my left arm and I don't even care.

first in my regional backyard (Buffalo), then in Texas.

Ember seems to have picked up on it. She can be a pretty feisty, sassy lady, but has been especially sweet the past couple of days. She is not a lap cat, but has been snuggling up next to me, putting a paw on my arm or leg when I'm on the couch. When at my desk, she puts a paw on my hand, then rubs my face with hers and stays close by as if knowing that I need some comfort.

It's good to feel that sweet innocence in a world that's upside down.

I've noticed that Madoc, who is also not usually a snuggly cat, has been curling up on my lap and purring up a storm. Even his morning antics are a bit scaled back.

Ember has shown empathy a few times. One was pretty funny as well as being sweet.

A bit delicate to describe, but I will try to be discrete. I had eaten some things that did not digest well. About 30 minutes later I had abdominal cramps and rushed to the bathroom, which is just off my kitchen. Ember was near the bathroom door. The release was, um, quick and LOUD. Ember rushed into the doorway and stared at me the whole time, with a concerned, anxious look. She did not leave the doorway until I left the bathroom. When I sat at my desk, she leaped onto it and snuggled against me, then put her paw on my arm as if to say, "Are you OK now?" I could easily imagine her thinking, "Boy I just hate it when that happens to me. Poor mama wnylib." She stayed with me like that for a long time.

They are behind me, on the recliner. Usually Gryff tries combing my hair with his claws. Not a comfortable grooming. But this morning both he and Madoc were just softly patting my head.

I'm going to buy them a treat when I head out, this morning. Sadly, my anxiety is already rising at the thought of entering a public building. Irrational, perhaps, but happening none the less.
